The Vampire Diaries and The Originals will return to CW with the second half of their seasons later this month, but both shows are making the move to a new night. Many fans have wondered about the move from Thursday to Friday nights on the network, and some have speculated that the move means the beginning of the end for both shows.
Mark Pedowitz, CW President, spoke about the move to Friday night at the Winter TCA’s on Sunday. He made it clear that moving The Vampire Diaries and The Originals to Friday night did not mean a cancellation for either series is coming at the end of this season.
According to TV Line, he said:
“The move is not to exile [the shows. It’s a move to strengthen Friday night.”
The Vampire Diaries has aired its entire run on Thursday nights. It’s sister series, The Originals, has bounced around CW’s schedule from the start. This season, Friday night was held by Reign and America’s Next Top Model. The latter series ended its run on the network in December.
In addition to the schedule change, Mark Pedowitz also teased a crossover for the The Vampire Diaries and The Originals later this season. Paul Wesley will take Stefan Salvatore to New Orleans, and he will visit with Klaus.
Julie Plec took the lead on the crossover talk and teased a bit about what fans will see. She said:
“Stefan finds himself very much in need of a mystical safe haven. And as we’ve seen on The Originals, there is a bar called The St. James Infirmary, in which no magic can permeate. So he goes to seek refuge in New Orleans and comes face-to-face with Klaus Mikaelson because, of course, nothing happens in Klaus’ town without Klaus knowing. I call it the reunion of the Bourbon buddies. All I can say is that Caroline has an involvement in the way that we’ve decided to dramatize the crossover, and I’m sure there are spoilers aplenty if people want to read further.”
Both shows will return to CW on January 29. Are you a fan of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals? Were you concerned about the move to Friday nights? Tell us what you think.
I love both shows. But i wasnt happy that you changed it to friday nights! Thursday nights are best for both shows…Missing Alana on the VD, the show was very confusing this season! The Orginals was a better show this season, Very sadden by all the deaths on the orginals this season!!!
I will be missing Regin and Crazy ex girlfriend on May 9th
i will be missing DC Legends Tommrow and The 100 on May 12
i will be missing Vampire Dairies and The Originals on May 13
I would need to watch cw network shows on cw app or cw network on On Demand
I hope that both shows are kept on the CW. They are both starting (as of April 16) to gear up in the intrigue and getting back to the roots in mystical lore and drama. It would be cool to have a mini story on ‘vlad the impaler’ ..aka; Dracula to somehow get weaved into both as a cross-over.
Prefer Thursdays but will watch any night. as long as they stay on
clearly they are on their last leg and they are using the crossover and klaorline to try and save the originals i find it funny how not that long ago JP didn’t even want to mention klaroline and now she is using it to boost ratings
Started with VD, then fell in love with the Originals. I enjoyed last years schedule more. Too many DVR conflicts this season, I dislike being forced to choose between loved shows and have to waste my internet (satellite) and be behind.
Keep the Originals on for many more seasons, please.
Sorry but if that were true they would’ve put better performing shows on Fridays not the two that have reached series lows this season
Drive a stake through the heart of both these boring shows. Nothing new, just the same ole thing over and over.
So pissed off at “TVD”.
