The X-Files will return to FOX later tonight, but could fans of the series see even more of The X-Files after this six-episode revival airs?
It is possible. The people involved with the series and at FOX are ready to add even more to The X-Files franchise right now. There is a problem though. That problem is scheduling, and that has been brought up several times by members of the cast and Chris Carter during the promotion for this X-Files revival.
In an interview with TV Guide, Chris Carter has made it clear that he is always ready to do more episodes. He has ideas for more episodes. In fact, he wrote a seventh episode for this revival, but there wasn’t enough time to put it together and include it. To TV Guide, he said:
“I’ll tell you, I think there are an endless number of X-Files stories to tell. Every day I write down a new idea so if there are to be more, I’ve got a jump on it.”
Is more really possible? FOX would also “jump on it” if scheduling was not such an issue for all of the parties involved. According to Variety, Dana Walden, the woman in charge at FOX, said the following about the potential more X-Files:
“The good news for us is that we own the show. I think we’ll see a great turnout within a seven-day window. But if viewers watch it beyond that, on whatever platform it’s available, that’s all good news. We would commit to new episodes right now, today, in advance of our launch. We are excited creatively by what we’ve seen. These episodes are incredibly consistent with the original series.”
However, it is David Duchovny that addressed the scheduling issues for him and his co-star, Gillian Anderson. He said:
“Gillian and I have talked about (doing more episodes), and then we just stop because we get to 2023 and we still haven’t found a date we can do it. It’s like, ‘Let’s just wait and see what happens after this,’ and then we can start to talk seriously about whether we can make it work again.”
For now, fans can enjoy the return of The X-Files with six brand new episodes. Do you plan to watch The X-Files later tonight? Tell us what you think.
Fantastic show returns with another fantastic season! Great viewership even though the schedule was a little wonky and overlapped with several high-profile events.
Very much looking forward to further seasons!
The x-files is the best tv show ever made. I would hope they pick up 10 more seasons right away.
I will always watch more, even re runs, I believe an x file’s for the theaters is over due! Bring it on, with all the junk out there it’s great to see a series that’s funny, clean, entertainin, and funny but allows you to think with great anticipation of what will happen next on every series showing! Great for fox and the advertisers
Such a thrill to watch the XFiles return. I admired the way Chris C. handled the passing of time between Scully and Mulder, Their past and current tension as lovers, partners and friends is still there. To see the other supporting actor’s whom are still involved was a nice surpise. The episodes were interesting and modern. If it’s money Jillian is worth as much David there would ‘not’ be an XFlies without her she is irreplaceable to even think of doing this would be sacrilegious to the brand. She has developed as an actress immensely over the years along with growing more… Read more »
I would definitely like to see additional x-files episodes. For ideas have you thought of having a contest or inviting enthusiastic x-files watchers to send in ideas, or complete written episodes if they are talented enough.
i was so happy it was back on and more happy it was still like the had been living it the whole time it was off and still has the same feel and humor seems so natural. Just
hoping they do a season 11 with mulder and scully they should keep einstein and miller on it they may try to spin off with einstein and miller but need to keep mulder and scully to see what plays out with their kid
Love the revival. The chemistry is still there, the stories are still quality writing. Hoping to see more seasons!
I would love more episodes but I want to see how the current run ends. I don’t want them to keep making episode because the ratings are great if the quality isn’t amazing. If they do come back for another season, life for 12/13 episodes have a definite beginning and end to it, no cliffhangers. I don’t want them to have to keep adding twists to the mythology to a point where we want the revival to end. Take it season by season. Do each season like the way American Horror Story do, have a definite conclusion to the season… Read more »
Well, if David and Gillian aren’t available, bring back the Fringe team to investigate the X Files. They worked for the FBI and Joshua Jackson is a big sci fi fan himself. I could totally see the X-Files working with the Fringe folks. If it can’t happen with Scully and Mulder, bring back the BISHOPS!!
NO THANKS! Horrible idea…!!!!!
SO glad to hear this. I think they will be even more eminently successful if they stick (at least mostly) with the alien mythology. That’s the “bread and butter” of the series.
I remember EVERY Sunday HAVING to watch the X-Files. It was such a different show at the time and I loved that, and the depth of the loyalty and caring between not only Milder and Skully, but Skinner as well. I am currently re-watching from season 1, in anticipation of the new mini-series. If they could keep the magic of the original series , I would love to see X-Files start a whole new chapter.
The timing for bringing this back, couldn’t be better. And within the pilot reboot, they’ve already established their relevance and Chris Carter is always two steps ahead of the pack and looking towards the next cultural trend; global power struggles, the strangeness of changing times, the eeriness of government and elite conspiracies revealing themselves before our very eyes. These characters are like avatars for our society, meant to hammer out possible answers to the strangest questions of our day. Even down to keeping the classic, X-files opening credits, Carter and crew understands this weird time we live in: We are… Read more »
I would be thrilled if they even did 3-6 longer episodes a year, like the format of Sherlock.
When one, has a Close Encounter for themselves, this cannot be denied. For decades I have wondered if there were others? This series addresses that question.
David is under contract to NBC for Aquarius (GREAT show) How will he be able to do both shows? I love X-Files…but I love Aquarius too.
The X-Files by far trumps Aquarius, & I think David knows a good thing when he sees it! His entire career is based around the X-Files, & now with the revival fans are begging for more! I’m in my 40’s now but I was there at the start, & I want more X-Files for as long as I can get!
Hope we get both as well 😉
