Matt Lauer to Host The Today Show on NBC Through 2018
Good news, Matt Lauer fans! NBC has renewed the Today Show host’s contract through 2018. According to The New York Post‘s gossip site, Page Six, the deal keeps Lauer at Today for two more years, at $20 million per year. That kind of money will get a person out of bed, in the morning.
Spinning the ratings numbers, NBC just announced Today posted its best November sweep victory over ABC‘s Good Morning America in five years. In that light, the sizable deal makes sense.
Still, Deadline seemed a little surprised by the news. Its report cites the social media drubbing Lauer took, after hosting MSNBC’s Commander-in-Chief forum with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. That special inspired the Twitter hashtag, #Laueringthebar.
