Tommy won’t be back on patrol next season. CBS just announced that the network has cancelled the cop drama and won’t be ordering a second season for the 2020-21 broadcast season.
The Tommy series revolves around a former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles. Abigail “Tommy” Thomas (Edie Falco) uses unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political, and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland. The CBS drama also stars Michael Chernus, Adelaide Clemens, Thomas Sadoski, Russell G. Jones, Olivia Lucy Phillip, Joseph Lyle Taylor, and Vladimir Caamaño.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Tommy averages a 0.49 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise as the drama is the network’s lowest-rated scripted series.
The 12th and final installment of Tommy airs tomorrow night.
What do you think? Do you watch Tommy? Would you have watched season two on CBS?
Consider8how many shows in the past started with low scores like Tommy did but built up steam after a few seasons what was the real problem. I feel you should’ve given the show a few more seasons to see what happens. Ms. Falco did a wonderful job on the Sopranos and Nurse Jackie it only seems right that you should give her a more than fair chance to make this show work.
I am so disappointed to hear that they have cancelled Tommy! Please bring Tommy back!
I am really disappointed Tommy was cancelled. What’s wrong with you, CBS? This show is only the second network show I watch, other than Blue Bloods. I am a grandmother and nearly 60 years old, and really enjoyed the content and bravery of the network to have a divorced, openly gay female leader with a bi-racial child, who was smarter than the men around her. I’m disappointed in you, CBS – get with the times. Please bring this show back. If not CBS, maybe another network will pick it up.
Tommy is a wonderful cop show which dealt with many of the controversial issues in America today with non violent responses. It is the type of tv show we need with all that is going on today.
Teach our kids the good examples in this show.
What is wrong with the CBS execs?
Tommy is a show which dealt with many os the “hot” issues in America today. With all that is going on why would they cancel a cop show which dealt with issues in a non violent way. Sad comment on the lack of awareness of CBS execs!
Please reconsider and keep this relevant show. Teach our kids what can be
Tommy was the only network show I watched. The writing was excellent; smart, crisp and realistic, shouldn’t surprise that it didn’t reach its targeted demographic. Most of that age group would recognize good writing and acting if they were hit upside the head. I guess Ms. Falco will have to go back to HBO, which appreciates a good actress and is willing to take risks. So it’s back to cable for me. Disappointed again in network executives, but not surprised.
Tommy was a great show. Please bring it back.
I really enjoyed Tommy. It was refreshing to see the struggle of a woman in a position dominated by men even though it was TV. TV is a powerful tool.
I loved Tommy, please bring it back it was one of the most intelligent shows on TV
Enjoyed Tommy only decent show, bring back. Don’t watch TV on Thursday now.
Don’t cancel Tommy it’s my favorite new show.
