FOX has cancelled a number of series this week and some have been a bit of a surprise. Lie to Me, Human Target, and The Chicago Code were all canned and most had been expecting at least one to survive. One cancellation that doesn’t come as a shock however is Traffic Light. No one was expecting the low-rated sitcom to be back for a second season.
Traffic Light follows the lives of three men who’ve been friends since college — Mike (David Denman), Adam (Nelson Franklin), and Ethan (Kris Marshall). Now in their thirties, they find themselves in different places in their lives and various stages of relationships. Mike’s married to Lisa (Liza Lapira), Adam lives with girlfriend Callie (Aya Cash), and Adam’s still the perpetual bachelor.
The premiere of Traffic Light attracted just a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.59 million viewers. In week two, the numbers fell more than 25%, to a 1.4 rating and 3.49 million. With figures like these, it was pretty clear that Traffic Light was doomed.

The ratings for subsequent episodes kept falling and even went as low as a 0.9 in the demo and 2.24 million viewers. The newbie sitcom averages a pitiful 1.5 in the demo and just 3.66 million viewers. It’s currently the lowest-rated series on the network, even ranking below Fringe which airs on Friday nights.
FOX has now officially cancelled Traffic Light after one season and 13 episodes. The final unaired episode of the series is scheduled to air next Tuesday, May 17th. The last episode produced, titled “Tommy Guns,” ran last night.
For now, FOX plans to air repeats of Traffic Light at least through the end of June. In light of this cancellation news, that schedule may change.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Traffic Light didn’t get a second season? Is the series better than the ratings indicate?

Traffic was one of the best shows on TV. I looked forward to it every week.
Glee was not the lead in. The ever-so horrible Raising Hope was the lead in.
Johnny » You are correct. Thanks for catching that.
So disappointed. My husband and I love Traffic Light and are so sad. The show was so funny and the cast was great. Why are shows like Glee so popular, yikes!
traffic light is easily one of the best shows on television!!!! how the heck could such a great show be cancelled? it should be given another chance!!!! when cheers started out it had horrible ratings…fox is a horrible network.
Sad that this show is cancelled. It was hilarious and all of the characters meshed really well with each other. I think the issue was that most people just simply did not know about it. Fox should bring it back and campaign harder to generate awareness. It could really hit off.
I truly enjoyed this adult comedy! I’m disappointed that Fox is canceling this. What are adults supposed to watch for laughs?
I find this serie to be very funny in it’s own way. It’s more adult, not dull like other series, wich I still like, but this brings me something new and exciting. NORMAL 3 best friends having fun and messing around, and relationship problems. Nothing better than Traffic Light.
PS.: I’m 19 years old guy from typing from Brazil.
“Nielsen ratings system ” with its Slaughterings and Murdering Bloodbath.
Networks could do more of an accurate calculation with the DVR’S boxes because they are in more home than Nelsen’s Box. I don’t even know of not one viewer with Nelsen’s box. DO YOU?
It is sure hard to find anything on television since all those cancellations Hypothesis: Do You KNOW? How does the “ Rating’s System” Anyone out here understand, in each situation, how do the rating system really works? Hypothetically situation, Old King Cobra watches News, Drama, sports ,playboy channels and he DVR “No Ordinary Family” to watch, next day with his children age 2,4, 10 But 20 year old wife watches “No Ordinary Family” a week later, by herself. The Wife also gone during the day time because she was busy, running around, spending King Cobra’s money. So she, DVR’D her soaps… Read more »
Is the Nielsen ratings system, truly understand and welcoming the convenience and its popularity of DVR’S events? With the importance of improving Nielsen ratings system are they considering DVR events of an individual. Wouldn’t it prove to be ,more accurate of its calculation then the Nielsen ratings system ? Do you think Nielsen ratings system calculates, in all the ways people view programs, like DVD’S,internet and even on cell phone? Is the Internet and DVD’S hurting, networks and causing rating, at its all time lowest ratings ever? Is mass cancellation the only avenue for the networks? Aren’t viewers still falling… Read more »
I looked forward to this every week. It was similar to but better than Perfect Couples, and much better than Modern Love.
I am so very disappointed that this show has been cancelled, it was one of the only new shows that showed any depth to its humor and my husband and I are very sad to see it go. Now we are just left with idiotic, sophomoric humored comedies and I will likely not watch much more on FOX.
I’m waaaaay outside the age group portrayed in Traffic Light, but my husband and I found the show to be hilarious and are very disappointed in its cancellation.
I think this show was hilarious! I for one did not watch it because I am never home around the time it is on. I think it is ment for a younger crowd so maybe it did not get the ratings it needed because most people in their 20’s do not have time to sit down and watch tv. Except for the weirdos who gather around the tv to watch glee. I think glee is the cheesiest show I have ever seen so I never knew about the traffic light premiere because I would not be caught dead watching glee!… Read more »
Traffic Light was “the best show no one ever heard of.” I’m so mad it got canned!
