Training Day TV show star, Bill Paxton, passed away on February 25th, at just 61 years of age, due to complications following surgery. Since his new CBS cop drama is only four episodes into its 13 episode first season, fans have asked how the loss of this accomplished actor will affect the first season, and if CBS will cancel or renew Training Day for season two.
Picking up years after the movie, Training Day follows Detective Frank Rourke (Paxton). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. LAPD brass assigns heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee. Kyle is to spy on Frank and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Will Training Day Season One Continue? Will this TV Show Be Cancelled or Renewed for a Season Two on CBS?
The first season of Training Day is currently averaging a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.165 million viewers. Compared to other CBS TV shows, the cop drama currently ranks 22nd out of the 25 scripted Tiffany Network TV shows we’re tracking. Even if we hadn’t lost the talented Mr. Paxton far too soon, CBS was unlikely to renew Training Day for season two.
There is one bright spot for fans. Deadline reports that season one production wrapped in December, which means all 13 episodes from the show’s first-season have already been shot. There are still nine new Training Day episodes, starring Paxton, to come on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Training Day TV show? Will you keep watching it, without Paxton? Should CBS cancel or renew Training Day for season two? Let us know, below.
I will definitely continue to watch the show. It’s an awesome show! I will miss Bill Paxton he was a wonderful actor!
Bill Paxton played the part of Frank Rourke very well. There are a few actors that can play the character well. The challenge will be that audience does not compare Paxton to the replacement but rather the Rourke character. I look forward to seeing the show as Training Day is a great story line.
Yes we would watch it, he will be greatly missed , a great actor.
I really love this show. Bill Paxton was awesome if they renew please create a new character. And if renewed I will watch
I think that out of respect for the Paxton family the show should be cancelled! You couldn’t replace Bill Paxton after he has starred and acted so eloquently for the first thirteen episodes! How lame it would be even! You would have to change the whole story line! No way!
We LOVE the show! We will miss Paxton, but would still watch further episodes, if it is allowed to continue. We want to find out about his partner’s father and that mystery. We definitely want the show to continue, even tho it has to be without Paxton. We are already “hooked” from the first 4 episodes, and would love to see the rest of this season along with a season 2. The final 9 episodes would be a great tribute to Paxton and his acting skills.
I really like the show, yes, Bill Paxton was the show but I believe it should still be continued. I will miss him but I truly think they can find someone to fill his shoes.
I really like this show. Bill Paxton was the show though so I don’t see how it could continue. I will watch it no matter what however.
Idk; I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that he is gone!!! I sincerely like the show, it is an original as far as the plot goes so maybe an ex-partner, or one of the stars already playing that can take up the position that they were trying to take down. Knowing NO ONE can ever fill those shoes but acknowledge the death and try to make it move forward!!!!!! I have had great loss in my life and I wish the family the prayers to get through this;God has a plan!!! Sadly we are never… Read more »
i think the character should die also, but the show should remain.
definitely keep the show
I hope they keep the show going. I watch it every week. Bill Paxton will be missed and I think it would be a tribute to him to continue the show he was proud of.
If they can find someone as good as Bill Paxton I will watch. Believe the ratings would have gotten better as a few more aired. Not sure you can find someone as good…he will be missed.
I won’t watch it without Bill Paxton. He was an amazing actor and the network won’t find anyone to replace him in my opinion. It is a devastating loss to all. My deepest condolences to his family.
Keep the show, I look forward to it every week, great production and story lines, it will grow fans.. Been there Day one!!
