Training Day TV show star, Bill Paxton, passed away on February 25th, at just 61 years of age, due to complications following surgery. Since his new CBS cop drama is only four episodes into its 13 episode first season, fans have asked how the loss of this accomplished actor will affect the first season, and if CBS will cancel or renew Training Day for season two.
Picking up years after the movie, Training Day follows Detective Frank Rourke (Paxton). He’s the maverick head of a special unit that hunts the city’s most dangerous criminals. LAPD brass assigns heroic Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) to pose as Frank’s trainee. Kyle is to spy on Frank and report on his off-book methods. The rest of the CBS cast includes Katrina Law, Drew Van Acker, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Christina Vidal, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.
Will Training Day Season One Continue? Will this TV Show Be Cancelled or Renewed for a Season Two on CBS?
The first season of Training Day is currently averaging a 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.165 million viewers. Compared to other CBS TV shows, the cop drama currently ranks 22nd out of the 25 scripted Tiffany Network TV shows we’re tracking. Even if we hadn’t lost the talented Mr. Paxton far too soon, CBS was unlikely to renew Training Day for season two.
There is one bright spot for fans. Deadline reports that season one production wrapped in December, which means all 13 episodes from the show’s first-season have already been shot. There are still nine new Training Day episodes, starring Paxton, to come on CBS.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Training Day TV show? Will you keep watching it, without Paxton? Should CBS cancel or renew Training Day for season two? Let us know, below.
I enjoy the show but it would depend on who they replace him with
I will absolutely keep watching the show if it continues to be as good as it is currently. Hopefully the actor they choose to replace Bill Paxton will be just as talented and create just as likable a character.
Yes it’s a really good show please re cast it with a similar actor
I love this show. Please find someone similar to Bill Paxton and continue with season 2.
Loved Paxton in almost everything he did. I really like the show. Cast someone else, please.

Paxton was an amazingly talented actor and it extremely hard hearing the news of his passing. I was excited for season 2 but am greatful we are fortunate to watch the rest of the latest work of Paxton. Rest easily.
I was very skeptical that I’d watch this show more than once, but I was pleasantly surprised. I do really like this show. Bill Paxton’s death was a shock, another good actor gone. I say give it a shot somehow – keep all the same people – maybe Kyle can take over for Frank. Not sure why so low – maybe popular show on NBC taking the viewers.
I like the show. If they could cast a similar attitude (Hugh lawry comes to mind) I would still watch.
I love the show and hope CBS will air all 13 episodes. If CBS renews the show, I will have to watch it to see if the show has kept its attraction and is true to the character that Bill Paxton portrayed.
Great actor going to be missed. CBS was likely to cancel this show after season 1.
Bill Paxton’s character was perfectly portrayed by him. He continually pulled the viewer back into the plot with his dry humor and hard nose persona. I loved the show and feel terrible about his passing. I think the gentleman that plays his co-star should have the opportunity to carry on Bill’s Training Day legacy. The other characters are also a great addition to run a second season.
I finally got around to watching this show…..Had 4 or 5 recorded. Love this show. He did a great job on his part. I would try it out on season 2 just to see if the replacement would work. I think the show had/has great potential.
great show keep it going you can find a replacement for Paxton he will be missed looks like it is going to be a great cop show.
Please keep the show on
I just discovered this show and had I of known about it sooner, would have watched it the day it first aired. This is a great show with a great plot and dynamic. It is tragic to lose Paxton as his character and acting makes the show captivating however I hope the show is renewed with all the same actors.
Love show also, don’t know how it is rated so low. Probably be another networks top show. To bad its on cbs (blest with several quailty sows)Maybe with paxon’s death it will get more people intersted. I vote at least 1 more please
