Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

oh my god im so frekin mad i loved this show ya know what i am not going to watch nbc anymore. grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is a great show. It shows the life of the underdog, those first responders, that keep the people alive before the doctors “help” them. While getting underpaid, they do it and go through the stress of the life. And do a WONDERFUL job.
I am very disappointed that This show was cancelled. Trauma is exciting and fast pace. I started watching it a little late but have really have enjoyed it. I hope thay can find a way to bring it back !!!
I enjoyed last nights Trauma episode. I don’t agree with Rabbitt being suspended without pay. The bank robber gave him both her guns, but was still shot. Rabbitt was only defending himself. Still I think NBC should keep the show, and not cancel it.
I am very disappointed that Trauma is being cancelled. I love the characters (and the actors that play them) and their interaction on the show. Please someone pick up Trauma!!!
Both my wife and I enjoy Trauma and wish it would get renewed by NBC or picked up by another network willing to give it a chance like TNT has done for Southland.
I too was psyched to see Trauma on last night and was not disappointed with it! I love Rabbit and all the guys, although Nancy could stop whoring it up for a while I still like her character. I wish they’d keep this show going. I don’t think that there are too many medical shows on right now, and the only ones that I do like are Trauma and House, so keep it on damn it!!!!
Hey lets just hope they leave well enough alone this time. I heard they are only running a few episodes. That would be a shame. This show gives me an intense feeling when I watch it. I love this show and I too love Rabbit. mmm damn he is sexy at what he does. and last nights show was amazing! as always!
YEH!!! I just happen to be surfing thru the channels last night and found Trauma was back on. I almost missed it. I’m so happy. I really missed Rabbit!!! Thanks NBC. I would like to think all of our complaints were worth it!
It’s back on!!! I was one who got hooked on this show, I loved it. I was upset to find out that it was just gone one week. Well….last night while watching the new episode of House on Fox I was shocked and thrilled to see that Trauma was coming on next. They brought it back and it picked up right where it left off. I’m so greatful that the executives at Fox actually listened to all of us.
THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT.. SAD TO SEE IT GO.. THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THOSE “””REALITY”” SHOWS, I totally agree with Chuck on this one!
I was soooooooooooooooo bummed when I heard that Trauma was cancelled as it was my FAVORITE new show. I was THRILLED to see an episode on tonight. I’m certainly hoping they will pick this show up for good. Great characters, cast & stories.
