Do the ratings for the Vikings TV show matter to the folks over at History? The series saw another big drop in the ratings last year — down 28% in the demo and 44% in viewers — but the cable channel renewed it for a supersized fourth season anyway. Will the numbers keep falling? Cancelled or renewed for a fifth season? Stay tuned.
Vikings takes place in the brutal and mysterious world of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking warrior and farmer who yearns to explore (and raid) the distant shores across the ocean. The rest of the large cast includes Katheryn Winnick, Clive Standen, Gustaf Skarsgård, Alyssa Sutherland, Linus Roache, Alexander Ludwig, Ben Robson, Moe Dunford, Lothaire Bluteau, Jasper Paakkonen, Kevin Durand, Jennie Jacques, Peter Franzen, Morgane Polanski, Amy Bailey, Dianne Doan, and John Kavanagh.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
3/17 update: History has renewed Vikings for a fifth season. Details here.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The third season of Vikings averaged a 0.81 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.45 million viewers.
Cable ratings are typically released within a day or so of the show’s airing, except for in the case of weekends and holidays.

Great Show, but Season 4 is a steaming pile of fail
Great show, but season 4 was a steaming pile of fail.
I love the show keep it going.
Excellent show long may it last
Part of the problem is almost no press/ interviews from the cast….maybe because it is filmed in Ireland. When was the last time you saw one of the cast members on a talk show? Comic-con will only get you so far, just my opinion.
i dvr and watch later…how does that affect numbers. i’ve also bought missed episodes on amazon and doubt that’s factored in. these numbers are bs as they don’t represent each household but only a select few then model them outwards. that’s like guess how many pair of shoes i have in my closet….not real accurate
History Channel’s website for Vikings also offers the episodes up for free each week too. I watched it directly on there (no sign up needed). I assume that a good amount of viewers may be counted through amazon as you said and also directly from History’s website.
This show is just awesome, my entire family watches it.
probably because a large majority. (even on high download speeds) and on decent computers the online stream lags alot. I have heard this from alot of people I serve with.
I absolutely love this show and would be seriously depressed if it got cancelled. I agree that the numbers might be down because there are too long between seasons. Cheers, Faye
I love the vikings, My sons father used to talk about the Vikings,Tell me stories. He passed away,I have always told Steven that his dad was norwigen (well I cant spell?) love the show, kind of rough but thats what you get
Have been watching vikings for a few seasons, one of the best shows on everyone i talk to watches also,it should be renewed.
The table does not appear here.
It should be fixed now. Thanks for the note!
Just started watching on stream pix this weekend I am almost finished with season two. I like it so much when Dale Jr crashed with 30 laps to go in the Dayton 500. I went back to watching the show and I am a diehard Nascar fan. How can anybody not love the drama and action of this series. Very well produced as well.
Love the show, been watching from day one. Maybe they should add a little more of the mystical aspect. Please keep it I wait all year for it to return. Just found out I have Orcadian blood in me, which I think is close to being a Viking.
I think one of the drawbacks to “Vikings” is the time lag between seasons. The show is good enough to hold adherents thru a season but with new shows appearing during the hiatus some fans get lost to other shows. My opinion, thanks …
I love Vikings, but I also agree w/Kamrama…. all the shows must lose a lot of viewers, or don’t get new ones, because of the long stretch between seasons.
This season you will like better i think. 20 episodes split apart, 10 know and i think 10 in the fall.
