Though there was talk that the Wayward Pines TV series could return for a second season, FOX seems to have killed that idea. The network has revealed that next week’s installment will be the last one — the series finale.
On Wayward Pines, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) drives to the bucolic town of Wayward Pines, in search of two missing federal agents. One was a former partner and they once had an affair. A truck slams into his car, he wakes up in the local hospital, and things start to get really strange. The cast of this thriller series also includes Howard, Melissa Leo, Carla Gugino, Toby Jones, Shannyn Sossamon, Charlie Tahan, Reed Diamond, Juliette Lewis, and Tim Griffin.
The series is currently FOX’s second-best performer of the summer, beating out shows like So You Think You Can Dance, Bullseye, Boom!, Are You Smarter Tahn a 5th Grader?, and animated Golan the Insatiable. Wayward Pines is averaging a 1.09 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.79 million viewers.
Based on the season’s performance, FOX execs were considering renewing the show for another year — most likely with a different cast and characters in the same mixed-up world. However, last night’s promo clearly notes that next week’s episode marks the end of the show. Take a look:
For what it’s worth, back in January executive producer M. Night Shyamalan was open to a second season but was cautiously optimistic. He said, “If the opportunity is there. We won’t do it unless it’s organically and creatively correct.”
Executive producer and showrunner Chad Hodge recently told TVLine, “The promise that we’ve been making — which is that there’s a beginning, middle and end in these 10 episodes — is a real promise and we deliver on it. Could there be a possibility of a Season 2? Sure, of course, and you’ll see a window to that, but it also is a complete ending as it is.”
What do you think? Do you like the Wayward Pines TV show? Would you have watched a second season?
7/24 update: Though FOX advertised the last episode as the “series finale”, talks of a second season continue.
Omg how can u NOT CONTINUE this show. Go ahead drop it and DROP ur network ratings
So the shows (wayward pines) follows the books fairly well. That said, and without giving up some major spoilers for the final … Any second season would have to be an intirely different show. I’m happy fox has followed the books and put out a great mini-series.

Loved it. Awesome seeming my man Matt Dillon every week. Pissed off they’re not renewing the show. I think they could have pulled off 20 episodes instead of ten.
This is why i hate network television. Every show that is good gets cancelled so they can run more reality crap. We need to start a petition! Wayward Pines season 2!!!!
Amazing show !!!!! No second season ?? That’s crazy!!
I love this series and wish a second season was possible. I knew going into it that Wayward Pines was a 10 part mini series. I like the show and appreciate the fact that it causes you to use your mind and ask questions. Sadly, it seems as if the mind numbing and thoughtless shows seem to get a pass.
A second season should be considered.
Seriously? A change.org site needs started for this… This was hands down the best show on TV in a LONG time! Shame on you Fox!!!!!!!
I am so sick of good shows being cancelled!!! This is one of the best shows on tv!!! What is wrong with Fox!!! It grabbed me from the first showing!!! Why other to watch new shows when they just cancelled!!!!
