After a few years of rising numbers, last year, the Nielsen ratings for Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart TV show settled in and ended up just a bit down. Still, the Canadian-American TV series has a fiercely devoted audience who keeps returning, so Hallmark has even developed an upcoming spin-off, When Calls Hope. Will the season six ratings be negatively impacted by the departure of Daniel Lissing? Will When Calls the Heart be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A western family drama, When Calls the Heart stars Erin Krakow, Lori Loughlin, Jack Wagner, Martin Cummins, Pascale Hutton, and Kavan Smith. Inspired by the Janette Oke novel, the Hallmark TV series centers on Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow), a young teacher from a high society background. When she is assigned to teach in a coal country classroom, her life completely changes, particularly when she meets Royal North West Mounted Policie Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing). Season six kicks off with the recently widowed Elizabeth Thatcher Thornton anticipating the arrival of Jack’s posthumous baby.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: Although Hallmark Channel separates the When Calls the Heart holiday special from the regular season, the two-hour movie which premieres on Christmas Day 2018 has a season six production number, so we include the movie’s ratings as part of season six.
For comparisons: The fifth season of When Calls the Heart on Hallmark averaged a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.325 million viewers.
What do you think? Do you like the When Calls the Heart TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for season seven on Hallmark Channel?
*3/18/19 update: The series has not been cancelled but, following Loughlin’s arrest, Hallmark pulled the remaining season six episodes. It seems that the intent is to rework the episodes (presumably to remove Loughlin) and air them at a later date. We’ll update you when we have a date.
*4/10/19 update: Season six of When Calls the Heart returns May 5, 2019.
*4/13/19 update: When Calls the Heart has been renewed for a seventh season by Hallmark.
I still love it.its the show that is safely no bad language and good for family.i really enjoy it.i have watched all the series
Look forward to watching this show. It is my favorite choice
Love , love it
Please continue the series. Hallmark is one of the few wholesome channels to watch, particularly this series.
Well we do not have cable, but we do rent the season when it becomes available on Apple TV. We paid to watch the Christmas special, and loved it! My husband and I will continue to watch it when it comes out in February and beyond!
It was a good show the first couple of seasons when it more realistically depicted the hardship that the people would have faced in that era. Now all the women have makeup and dyed hair and everyone has nice clothes etc. and Henry the only bad guy is a changed man. Without someone to root against the show is boring and should be canceled
I kind of agree with you–though for some reason, I was rooting for Henry to have a redemption storyline and wanted him with Lori’s character….I thought I saw some odd onscreen chemistry there. I would also like to see a realistic black female recurring background character. Lots of American slaves fled to Canada and other NW territories around that time after slavery ended, I have some folk like this in my family. Many black men came there with their French Canadian friends to fur trap too–real history, not made up. I liked how Dr Quinn Medicine woman was able to… Read more »
I agree with Erica. Give it a chance. There are always ups and downs. That is life. I love the show and I will keep watching.
Shouldn’t of had Constaple Thornton die. The two, Elzibeht and Jack were the absolute heart of the show yes everyone else had a piece but it centered on Elizabeth and Jack. Now I don’t even want to watch It, what a disappointment as every episode led to the beautiful union journey and now marriage which quickly ended in Jacks death. Horrible choice to end it this way.
Shouldn’t have let Daniel go, he was part of the heart of the show. It is not the same, not sure I am going to watch the next season if it comes back,
I won’t watch it without Jack
This series is something that I can watch with my children. Though it’ll never be the same without Daniel as ‘Jack’, I honestly hope you give it a chance! My little family wants to see new hope for Elizabeth!
I love all the characters (even Henry) but so much focus was on the relationship between Jack and Elizabeth that I’ll have to see how the story goes before I decide to continue watching. I don’t see why they had to kill him [Jack] off. Another dark, handsome actor could have replaced him. It’s the character we love, not just the actor. Such a shame that Daniel had to leave. His leaving may cause all of his fellow actors lose their jobs. That’s the way it is in today’s society. People only think of themselves. I’ve lost my respect for… Read more »
So very true, about coworkers sometimes only thinking of themselves and not the relations they made our the outcomes of their lives.
I LOVE When Calls the Heart!!! Please continue the series even without Daniel Lissing. The other characters are wonderful!! I love the stories!
I love the other characters as well. I feel like this show has so much more to offer. PLEASE keep it going?
I totally agree! I love all the characters and the series needs to be renewed
Agreed!
I love it..it’s got a little house on the prairie feel..love the characters .I’m 61.yrs old and don’t want violent ,sexual shows..please consider all age demographics..18-49.. alot of your audience is older…
I agree!! I watched the reruns in the 90s of Little House when little–also Dr Quinn, kind of. 🙂
I have watched every year. My granddaughters love it, too. Thank you for clean family productions. We need more of these kind of productions for children to be involved in watching. You have great opportunities to do this.
Love the show! I will continue to watch season 7 regardless of whether Jack is in it or not. But…….I do think you should bring him back. Perhaps it was someone else the Constable saw get killed and not Jack???
I totally agree with you Carol!
