“The Truth Is Out There” and FOX is hoping that viewers are out there too. The network has (finally) announced that they’ll be producing a second event series of The X-Files (aka season 11). Production on the next round of 10 episodes will begin this summer and they will air sometime during the 2017-18 season.
Here’s the press release:
“THE X-FILES” RETURNS TO FOX FOR 10-EPISODE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF EVENT SERIES
FOX has ordered a second chapter of THE X-FILES event series. The all-new 10-episode installment once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The event series will air during the 2017-2018 season. Production is set to begin in summer 2017.
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why THE X-FILES has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of THE X-FILES.”
In 2016, THE X-FILES drew an average Multi-Platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was last season’s No. 2 broadcast drama. It also was the season’s most talked-about event series on Twitter.
THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, THE X-FILES is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.
What do you think? Did you like the first revival of The X-Files on FOX? Do you plan on watching the second one?
Great news! If I ever have access….
HUGE fan from the start watched Sn 1-9 @ least 3×! Unfortunately…I didn’t get to view season 10 before they yanked it from #hulu! And it wasn’t up long! Why is that?! Now it seems #Netflix lost the rights to all the older episodes…but hulu has those. SO..Without cable it’s…”oh well Sorry”? Any show I really like that airs on #FOX makes me nervous enough with their track record. And I pay enough for streaming already. The networks jumping on the bandwagon to charge for episodes is BS Imo. Sigh…
I’m glad the X-Files are coming back I was depressed when it was off I sure will watch
So looking forward to seeing S11, if only to know what happened to Mulder on the bridge, that and more conspiracy please (no monsters, there are enough around!).
Yes I loved the X-Files and yes I will watch season 11, bring it on.
I can’t wait to see where UFO over the bridge cliffhanger goes!
I am ready to beleave roller coaster
for I’m ready to beleave roller coster
X-Files S11 is overdue for a return. S10 was concerning because it seemed to be a Cliff Notes version of the series’ old story lines and themes. While it was a great walk down memory lane for die-hard fans and a helluva cliffhanger last episode, I wondered whether it would inspire enough interest among new viewers to bring the show back. I hope the writing goes back to their original wondrous mesh of nebulous UFO conspiracy, extreme cases of the plausibly supernatural, and the occasional off-the-wall episode just for the hell of it. That chemistry worked of the original series.… Read more »
My absolute favorite show! I watch an old episode every night as I’m going to sleep. Now ask me again if I’m excited and plan to watch lol!
Glad to see it’s coming back again. Mulder and Scully are my favorites. Long live Chris Carter. Now, bring back Fringe.
Finally! Already wishing it would appear tomorrow.
YES!
It’s about time!
Most definitely I will watch another season. Keep ’em coming!
