You’re a bad dog baby, but while I still want you around, the Alphabet Network apparently differs. ABC has cancelled the Downward Dog TV show after just one season. Creator Samm Hodges announced the bad news on Twitter, tonight. Excuse us while we get a newspaper and swat ABC on the nose.
An ABC sitcom, Downward Dog stars Allison Tolman, Lucas Neff, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Barry Rothbart, Siovhan Christensen, Ayden Mayeri, Andrew Gorell, Sam Hodges (voice), and Ned the dog. The sitcom centers on Nan (Tolman), and is narrated by her philosophically inclined and rather forlorn dog, Martin (voiced by Hodges). Martin tells Nan’s story from the perspective of woman’s best friend. The series explores the ups and downs of modern-day human life, through the eyes of a devoted dog.
Co-Creators Samm Hodges and Michael Killen Confirm ABC Has Cancelled Downward Dog
The good news is, Hodges tweeted that he and Killen aren’t giving up on the Downward Dog TV series. Check it out.

In it, Hodges says he and Killen are committed to finding a new home for the sitcom, so all hope is not yet lost.

Downward Dog: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Downward Dog is averaging a 0.84 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.19 million viewers. It’s not the lowest performing ABC TV show, but it didn’t make a big impression.
What do you think? Should the Downward Dog TV show be cancelled or renewed for season two? Let us know, below.
this show was one I enjoyed the most, if more people were aware of it I believe they would fall in love with this show as well. I hope that this show is picked up somewhere, there is more there for people to experience if they only advertised it a little more. One of the best shows to be cancelled after only 7-8 episodes ive ever seen
I thought, like some other shows it was gone for a short time and would resume when the fall TV season started again. I don’t believe this! I really liked this show and am shocked to see DD gone, really gone. With so much garbage on TV this was one of the few shows I truly looked forward to watching. I hope another network picks it up. If so it’ll be at the top of my viewing list as it was before. So bummed.
I sooo loved DD !! Can’t believe that we can’t keep quality shows from being cancelled … I wish they would have given it another season — sometimes it takes awhile to find a ‘following’ . I’ll miss you Martin !!
Loved this show and would love a second season.
Loved this one….sad:(
I loved Martin & the human cast on Downward Dog. One of the most original & creative comedy programs I have seen in quite a while. Maybe too good for T.V. I agree that it was not given a fair chance at success. It was not promoted very well at all. I happened to see the episode by chance. Every person I encouraged to watch it loved it as I did. So disappointed it was cancelled.
Love this show but no one ever heard of it! It needs to come. back. And don’t drop.the ball.this time, make sure everyone knows about it!
DD is AWESOME!!!! I just don’t think it was promoted very well at all. I would ask ppl if they’re watching it and they’d say “Never heard of it.” Then they’d binge watch the few episodes and, like me, be left wanting more. Go to Netflix or another venue, please!
