While SYTYCD’s return won its timeslot (easily beating ABC’s Duets), FOX was likely not regretting the decision to cut the show down to once airing a week. Year-to-year, the dance competition was down by 27% in the all-important demo (vs a 3.3 rating) and down by 34% in overall viewers (vs 9.45 million). No doubt the decline in American Idol viewers didn’t help as FOX tries to lead Idol viewers into watching SYTYCD.

Reference point: The Summer 2011 season ran twice a week while the current season has been cut down to one airing. In 2011, the Wednesday shows averaged a 2.3 rating in the demo with 6.39 million. The Thursday editions averaged a 2.1 demo rating with 6.34 million.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

What do you think? Do you like the So You Think You Can Dance TV series? Are you still interested? Are you hoping that it’s renewed for a 10th season or should it be cancelled instead?

I’m amazed, I must say. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s equally educative
and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head.

The problem is something too few folks are speaking intelligently
about. I am very happy I stumbled across this in my search for something
regarding this.

I like it, but I wouldn’t miss it if it were gone. Alas, what it will take to make it work is the same thing it will take to save Idol: replace Nigel Lythgoe.

Please don’t cancel ,but either bring new choreographers for hip hop or cancel the hip hop genra .Hip hop is a street social art form ,once you take it out of the streets it loses its beauty and power.Nappytabs killed this art form I personally dislike their choreography many times over .Is an insult for hip hop to call their choreography “lyrical hip hop” with all due respect what the hell does that mean .I hate their style with passion Consider bringing real hip hop choreographers ,contemporary and street trained.

Bring NEW choreographers .Good choreographers not mediocre choreographers like nappytabs .I read all the posts and I am happy to see I am NOT the only one who feels like this about nappytabs I can t stand that great dancers have to perform mediocre choreography of mediocre choreographers and then they get blamed when is so obvious is the bad choreography which makes them look incompetent .Bring better younger choreographers and I think that will help the ratings
