Mark your calendar now if you’re a fan of NBC’s The Office. The peacock network has announced that the long-running sitcom’s last episode will air on May 16th.
The series finale will be the show’s 200th episode and will run for one hour, starting at 9pm. I expect that NBC will run a retrospective of some kind in the 8pm hour but they haven’t announced one yet.
While the ratings have fallen a lot over the years, The Office ranks as NBC’s third-highest rated scripted series, behind Revolution and Go On. No doubt the network is sorry to see it go.

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – February 07, 2013 – NBC’s Emmy Award-winning “The Office” (Thursdays, 9-9:30 p.m. ET) will close up shop with its 200th episode, a one-hour series finale on Thursday, May 16 (9-10 p.m. ET).
“The Office” has established itself as a genuine hit, earning prestigious television honors such as the 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, 2006 Peabody Award, 2006 & 2008 AFI Honors, Producers Guild Award, Writers Guild Award, SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy, Ace Eddie Award for editing and a Television Critic’s Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.
The series is executive-produced by Ben Silverman, Greg Daniels, who developed the series for American audiences, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Paul Lieberstein, Brent Forrester and Dan Sterling.

I think Michael Scott leaving was the best thing to happen to the show. They can now have office parties without it getting derailed by whatever Michael’s issue is.
It’s been a bit better this season than the last one, but the show really jumped the shark when Michael Scott left.
