ABC certainly needs new shows that are a hit in the ratings. They didn’t have much luck last season. Will this year be different or will much of their new crop of TV shows be cancelled as well?
There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
ABC shows (so far): 20/20, 500 Questions, America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Crime, The Astronaut Wives Club, The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelorette, BattleBots, Black-ish, Boston EMS, Castle, Celebrity Family Feud, Celebrity Wife Swap, Cristela, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Weight Loss, Forever, Fresh Off The Boat, Galavant, The Goldbergs, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, In An Instant, Last Man Standing, Manhattan Love Story, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, The Middle, Mistresses, Modern Family, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Primetime: What Would You Do?, Repeat After Me, Resurrection, Revenge, Rookie Blue, Save My Life: Boston Trauma, Scandal, Secrets and Lies, Selfie, Shark Tank, The Taste, and The Whispers.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
Note: Due to Nielsen reportings glitch, some ratings for Modern Family, SHIELD, Once Upon a Time, Nashville, and Revenge have been adjusted downward. Nielsen has only released restated numbers for the first week of the season (9/22-9/28/14) so far.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Don’t cancel forever. It is one of the best shows on tv…way better than blacklist
Please bring back FOREVER!!!!
When my twelve year old daughter and I watched the very first episode of ABC’s, “Forever”, we were forever hooked! Instantly, it became a Tuesday night ritual in our home! In fact, we scheduled our two weekly Girl Scout meetings on any day of the week except Tuesday just to ensure nothing would prevent us from making our way to the sofa to watch another episode of our favorite show! Yes, a twelve year old and her mother both share the same favorite show! They must’ve been doing something right! Please let them do it again and bring “Forever” back!
Please please please DO NOT cancel Forver!!! I’m so hooked and finally when Henry opens up, it gets cancelled. Please bring it back! This is such a great show and I have to see more!!!!
Forever was scoring better ratings than both Galavant and Shield and yet they get renewed and this great show gets canceled? What the F**k, ABC?
Let’s hope another network picks this show up … ABC has no clue how good that show is.
some of the shows that they renewed our lot worse than the ones they canceled and they got worst ratings you wonder where their mindset is.
you keep Fresh off the Boat that is totaly boring but cancel Crystela and Forever? makes no sence at all.
Why are you cancelling Forever? It has more per mil viewers than Shield and Galvant. I like Shield though too. I record it every week and was looking forward to see what happens next year.
Renew Forever PLEASE
‘Forever’ is one of the most entertaining shows on TV, with good writing, chemistry, actors. One can only hope that if ABC cancels it to replace with some garbage, another network (cable, perhaps?) would be smart enough to pick it up!
I’m surprised that your canceling Forever. It’s a great show and I recorded it so as not to miss an episode. I dislike how programs are cut off at the knee before they have a chance to pickup and audience.
Don’t cancel FOREVER!
ABC please don’t cancel Forever. Give us one more season and use your advertising dollars from other more established shows. This is a great cast and great show.
Sorry but they have canceled forever.
Please don,t cancel Forever it’s the easy way to discuss history with kids
Just for once, listen to the people instead of your pocket books – keep a well written, well acted show in your line-up. Bring “Forever” back for the new season. Give it another chance.
Forever is a great, great show. Great chemistry with the cast, and perfect combination of drama with some comedy. Renew for a second season!
