ABC certainly needs new shows that are a hit in the ratings. They didn’t have much luck last season. Will this year be different or will much of their new crop of TV shows be cancelled as well?
There’s lots of data that network execs looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are the major ingredient. These charts will be updated daily, as new ratings data becomes available.
ABC shows (so far): 20/20, 500 Questions, America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Crime, The Astronaut Wives Club, The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, The Bachelorette, BattleBots, Black-ish, Boston EMS, Castle, Celebrity Family Feud, Celebrity Wife Swap, Cristela, Dancing with the Stars, Extreme Weight Loss, Forever, Fresh Off The Boat, Galavant, The Goldbergs, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, In An Instant, Last Man Standing, Manhattan Love Story, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, The Middle, Mistresses, Modern Family, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, Primetime: What Would You Do?, Repeat After Me, Resurrection, Revenge, Rookie Blue, Save My Life: Boston Trauma, Scandal, Secrets and Lies, Selfie, Shark Tank, The Taste, and The Whispers.

A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking.
The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
Note: Due to Nielsen reportings glitch, some ratings for Modern Family, SHIELD, Once Upon a Time, Nashville, and Revenge have been adjusted downward. Nielsen has only released restated numbers for the first week of the season (9/22-9/28/14) so far.
What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better? Which one do you think will be cancelled next?
Please renew Forever!!! Im from México and I really love it.
Please renew Forever, you guys would make a big mistake not to continue the show!!!!
Forever is the best show for me.
Please, please renew Forever for another series. It is by far the best mystery drama on TV these days and the acting is brilliant. I really like the premise behind the storylines, while the characters are so sympathetic that they make the incredible become believable. Market the show more appropriately and I’m sure ratings will improve. Who needs more strained and predictable so-called comedies that aren’t even funny, or yet more boring “reality tv” full of people who can’t act and should not be taking up screen space.
Oh my God that was beautiful said no one could have said it any better, it is too bad that these networks don’t listen to actually watch it, there rating system stinks.
We love Forever. My husband enjoy it together and have never missed an episode.. Please renew it. It is a good story line, likeable characters and the acting is superb. I am so sick of these 30 minute so called comedies that arent even funny.
It is looking pretty bad for forever but you never know, I do agree with you on one thing though it is a hell of a lot better than the so-called comedies you got be brain-dead to watch them, if there is a program or series you’re like there’s a little secret that helped keep them on.
I am from Mexico and I am agree with all of you, forever is an excellent show and they have to renew it, in Mexico there is a lot of people that watch it on warner channel, i hope they make the 2 and 3 seasson
Forever should be renewed. It’s one of the best TV dramadeys in a long time. The whole premise of the show is extremely creative and unlike any other show. Originality and great new actors and an long time favorite, Judd Hirsch.
If ABC cancels Forever, it’s because they haven’t promoted it well. Why keep
Promoting the shows that are doing fine? Isn’t this like advertising and promotions 101? Promote the ones that are weak but have potential?
One thing I can say about forever it is fairly clean series it does not have four letter word every other word or talk about body parts constantly like a lot of the other shows do but them actors been around for quite a while at detecting she played on law and order for few years and the one plays Morgan he’s been on different show on fantastic four
I did really like Castle until the end of season six and the beginning of season seven that was one big screw up and as far as I am concerned they did not get it straightened out, and I liked forever but they got kind of off-track to I quit watching it
Forever is amazing. There are a lot of murder mystery cop shows out there but none quite like this. If it isn’t renewed,it should be picked up by another station or Netflix!
Forever is the one show that I watch weekly without fail. Please don’t cancel a truly smart, engrossing, touching drama series because it s on in an unfortunate time slot. Please renew this show!
We will know by Tuesday night or Wednesday morning if they canceled forever they have already canceled revenge.
If you don’t renew Castle, I will NEVER watch another ABC show again. Don’t think I’m the only viewer that feels this way either. Age of cable, lots of other stations to chose from.
It is not all ABCs fault if they do not renew take for instance Stana Katic have not signed her new contract yet, now really half of season seven episodes was bad yes there was some good ones, the writer was trying to make it too much like criminal mind or law and order, did not have the comedy in them like the first six seasons.
Forever is by far the best series I have seen in a long time. It is insightful and though provoking and I love the Sherlock Holmes feel to the whole thing. Please renew this show, I catch in on Hulu often and its a weekly event my entire house looks forward to. 38 years old here in case that matters to any network sorts that might see this.
Forever is a wonderful drama series. In fact, it is the best I have seen in a long, long time. Why must we have so many stupid reality series that never seem to end and when a really good show comes along it’s cancelled? I am a well educated person, with two masters degrees, who teaches school. For me to stay up and watch this show means it is really special. Please, renew Forever. I know you’ll be glad you did!!!
Forever is by far the best drama on ABC, or any other channel for that matter. The characters are all likable, flawed, and very real, the plot is brilliant, and it keeps me on the edge of my seat. Honestly, I can’t take any more mindless television or reality shows, they need to renew Forever and move it to an hour earlier time slot so it gets more viewers!! I know so many people who would love to see this show more, but they have day jobs and are usually in bed by 10pm. ABC has a terrible habit of… Read more »
I have to say that I love “Forever” but I hate watching in on ABC. Please take it to Netflix and continue the series. Fantastic show to watch with a painful implementation on the part of ABC, as it is merely place filler for continuous commercials about other ABC shows that I have no interest in watching. I have never seen so many commercials in one sitting that I lose the desire to continue watching.
A wonderful way for ABC to destroy a good thing by over marketing their other shows.
