What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, the Bluff City Law TV series stars Jimmy Smits, Caitlin McGee, Scott Shepherd, Barry Sloane, Michael Luwoye, MaameYaa Boafo, Stony Blyden, and Jayne Atkinson. Coming from a famous Memphis family that’s known for taking on injustice, a brilliant lawyer named Sydney Strait (McGee) used to work at her father Elijah’s celebrated law firm until their tumultuous relationship got in the way. After barely speaking to Elijah (Smits) for years, Sydney is suddenly thrust back into the family fold when her philanthropist mother passes away unexpectedly. In the wake of the loss of his wife and in hopes of reconnecting with the daughter he loves, Elijah asks Sydney to rejoin his Civil Rights firm and take on a chemical company whose product may cause cancer. Despite her lingering resentment and distrust, she agrees because she knows that working alongside her father is her best hope at changing the world — as long as they can find a way to get along. No sooner has Sydney returned than she stumbles on a secret that Elijah has been keeping from her that may change everything.

Telly’s Take
Will NBC cancel or renew Bluff City Law for season two? The ratings aren’t great and have been dropping lower and lower. A show that follows The Voice should be doing better. I think it will be cancelled. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. Subscribe for Bluff City Law cancellation or renewal alerts.
6/16/20 update: Bluff City Law has been cancelled by NBC so, there won’t be a second season.

What do you think? Were you hoping that the Bluff City Law would be renewed for a second season? Are you sorry that NBC has cancelled this TV show, instead?
Bluff City Law has an excellent story line plus quality actors. It seems shameful that a show that presents stories which easily portray real-life situations might not be renewed. I vote the show be given another year to prove its value to viewers.
I love Bluff City Law. It’s a fantastic show & I looked forward to seeing it every week. It hasn’t been on the lineup lately. Now I know why. I cannot believe it had such low ratings with Jimmy Smits doing such a great job in that role.PLEASE NBC keep this show on the air. Thank you.
I love this show bluff City law I guess all of my TV shows have been cancelled except 2 and that’s really sad but I love this show it’s amazing it’s a great show please don’t cancel it and bring it back!!!!
I am always leery of getting caught up in a New series on NBC because it !I like it it will most likely be cancelled after one of two (at the most) seasons. Bluff City Law is the latest example, and I hate that we’re losing one of the few feel good, non-‘reality’ shows on this season. But that’s NBC for you!
I love that show. Please dont cancel it.
The potential cancelation of Bluff City Law is yet another example of one of the few quality shows left on TV being cancelled due to ratings. And it will likely get replaced by another reality show.
Well produced shows with good acting and writing are now the exception. We are now down to 6-8 shows that we watch regularly, and not many of them are on NBC.
Develope some integrity, and make exceptions to the ratings for QUALITY programing.
I totally agree with everything you said & I’m thoroughly disgusted with the network!
Don’t Cancel it! Needs more seasons – Excellent show
So sad that this show is probably cancelled. I really enjoyed it and I love Jimmy Smits.
Yes, please release second season. I do not watch a lot of tv, but this show got my attention. I miss it.
I will never understand how decent shows get canceled while the rediculous so called “reality” shows(that are so obviously scripted) air for 20+ seasons. NBC has messed up again….the good shows are getting less and less air time that I’m beginning to think I should just do away with these regular stations and just watch Netflix
It’s absolutely ridiculous that Bluff City Law is being cancelled. I am a senior citizen and tv line up for people who are older then 50. who spend their time watching tv have nothing to watch but costly cable programming which is mainly vulgar and filled with sex and violence, network tv last season had a few good programs and Bluff City was one that I could watch with grandchildren. Why not steer away from reality shows that teach violence and pornography and promote feel good programming for a change. Maybe it would help the world become a better place… Read more »
one of the best new shows on tv. Deserves a second year!
I loved the show, I cant believe N. B C would cancel such a good show..so much garbage on Jimmy Smits…still killing it.
This was a great show! My husband and I looked forward to this show every week. This show was one of the best shows aired this year. It would be a travesty if it was cancelled. And if it is canceled shame on you NBC. Keep Bluff City Law on the air.
Once again a good quality show is in danger of being canceled while ridiculous moronic shows continue for years. Please listen NBC. Try different time slots and let this show find its spot. There are nights I turn the TV off because of the lack of quality shows. My husband and I are extremely disappointed.
