A&E has cancelled their crime drama, Breakout Kings after two seasons and 23 episodes. It seems this case is closed.
Breakout Kings follows a squad of U.S. Marshals who make special deals with prisoners to catch escaped convicts. The cast includes Laz Alonso, Domenick Lombardozzi, Brooke Nevin, Malcolm Goodwin, Serinda Swan, and Jimmi Simpson.
The series debuted in March 2011 to a 1.2 rating in the demo with 2.8 million viewers. The ratings declined in later weeks and the first season finale drew a 0.8 rating with 2.01 million.

In March 2012, the second season debuted with a 0.8 rating with 2.11 million. In that episode, many viewers were shocked to see Alonso’s lead character Charlie abruptly killed off. Alonso later told fans that leaving the show was not his idea.
Over the course of season two, the ratings for Breakout Kings further declined, hitting a low of a 0.5 rating with 1.27 million. The finale aired last month and A&E has decided they don’t want a third season.
Of the cancellation, Malcolm Goodwin (Shea on the series) tweeted, “So Breakout Kings is canceled. Thx to all 4 the luv & support over the last 2 seasons! It’s been a fun experience! Much luv! On to the next.”
The news comes soon after co-creator Matt Olmstead was signed to run NBC’s new fireman drama, Chicago Fire.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Breakout Kings won’t be back for a third season? Did Alonso leaving the series influence your watching the series?

I’m getting to the point where I hate network TV. They end every season on a cliffhanger and then cancel the show without resolving it. At the very least they could have the decency to film a final episode to tie up the loose ends. But no, they just cancel it and give the finger to the fans. This demonstrates more than anything that networks don’t care about their viewers. We’re all just walking wallets to them. Well, I’ve had enough. I’m not going to bother watching any of the new shows coming out. Why should I? They’ll just get… Read more »
I couldn’t wait each Sunday night for it to come on the TV. I didn’t like that Charlie died really early or at all, but that did not make me want to stop watching it at all! I think it would have done better if they moved the day & time slot….not cancell it. Booooo …. Im not a happy camper with this decision
I was disappointed when Charlie was killed off but that didn’t stop me from watching. Now if Lloyd had been killed off that might be a different story! I wish A&E would bring the show back
I stopped watching after they killed Charlie. It threw off the balance of the team. Sorry BOK fans but I wished for this after they killed Charlie.
Just when I had started to look forward to the show,it was cancelled.Series was different but enjoyed suspense.Time slot was probably the biggest reason for low ratings.Missing Laz Alonso.Reconsider season three return
Loved BOK – even thought I was late to the party and had to catch up after tuning in one night while channel surfing. After that , I set the DVR to record every episode, so I got to catch the re-runs of prior episodes and catch up on what had happened. This is a show that is one of my favorites; a crime drama with a different twist to it, and I’m truly sad to see it go. Perhaps, if the producers get enough positive mail, they will re-think their decision, or maybe one of the “big 3” networks… Read more »
Put the show back on this is stupid thats the best show ever i love breakout king’s
Watched the show every week religiouly. Watched it with greater interest once Charlie died to see if they would catch (and kill) Damien. Great series…bring it back…or at least do one show to tie up the loose ends.
Disappointed!!! Its a great show. Yes they need another Marshall on the team to balance things out but that is easy to write in. Come on how about a female marshall with some kind of axe to grind from the past?
I loooved it…ther usualt is main, character that dies that no surprise. Not happy ther wont b a season 3. I Love Breakout Kings 🙁
Sad day for BOK fans…ridiculous to end it that way…Laz although missed didn’t influence my decision to keep watching..all of the characters were just really starting to develop. I wish another network would pick this show up. Sunday nights was the worst possible slot to put the show in..it competed with Sunday night football which has been deemed the no. 1 viewed program. It’s terrible that we invest in programs and characters only to have it left on a cliffhanger and abruptly ended.
Why…Why leave such a Cliffhanger?!? stupid producers, I hate when they do that… Yeah, Charlie (Laz Alonso) was killed off early and abruptly, but that in my opinion made it even better… I wanted to see more of Damiens’ character, as Jason Behr played it so well! and Jimmi Simpson played Lloyd on point in this series… there is so much to say about the series, its like their characters were starting to surface and manifest even more, and suddenly when I’d expect to see more of this… its suddenly cancelled… STUPID Networks and Matt Olmstead… You’re surely A douche,… Read more »
I loved the series also. They should not have left such a big cliff hanger at the end of season 2.
I glad it got cancelled, they shouldn’t have killed Laz Alonso character off. I stopped watching after they did that anyways. Many people said he was not a major character in the series but he was the leader of the group and he keep the team in check better than the other Ray did and beside that I don’t think the story line was headed into a god direction.
thats made the story line so great this season . was sad to see charlie go but made the show better.
I loved this series and am very surprised to see it end like this. I think it had to do with Laz’s character being killed off….that should have been the first sign to the fans that this series might be the last. Good-bye Breakout Kings. 🙁
