In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

We loved the show and are so sorry ABC has decided to end it, nothing good on television to watch anymore
I am very disappointed that another well written and acted program has been canceled to make way for other reality or inanely written programs. I realize that this show was an expensive one to produce, but it was also a quality production, which deserved better support from its network executives. There are very few dramatic series of its caliber.
I used just to love the show…
But they had just made it sooo gay..I’m sorry..but I just don’t want to see two men kissing…hollywood has forgotten that the majority of america is heterosexual.
…and apparently bigoted. The proportion of gay to straight couples on tv is far below reality. It was great to see a realistic and in depth portrayal of the trials, tribulations, and joys of a same sex couple on tv. As a heterosexual american, I appreciated what ABC was standing for with Kevin & Scotty’s relationship. Get off your couch, see the world, and grow up
Wow ABC I can’t believe that you have cancelled one of the BEST show ever done!! I am not sure if when you DVR the show, it shows the ratings or not. All I can tell you is that I have never wrote a post for other shows that ABC has cancelled that I have loved. But I am so ready to Stop watching ABC all together. This is SO disappointing! I love this show and watch it every week….there are so many other shows worth canceling but NOT this one….I really wish they would change thier minds!
Why!! It’s one of the better shows out there. Do they take into consideration that people use the dvr to watch it? Not everyone has time to sit and watch it at 10:00pm. Everyone has very busy lives, I hope someone decides to add the show to their lineup. ABC is always doing this. I know alot of people who is considering not watching them at all.
My favorite show. Can’t believe that it was so low in ratings you had to cancel it ABC. I don’t watch desperate housewives so they won’t be a lead in for a new show for me. Thanks for nothing. Well, thanks at least for the 5 years that the show was on the air.
It was my very favorite show. I hate that it won’t be back!! I’m very disappointed.
I am so upset that Brothers & Sisters has been cut. I loved that show! It was the only reason I tuned in on Sunday night. BRING THE SHOW BACK, PLEASE!! My mother and I would call each other during commercials and talk about what had happened……I loved all the characters and they each had so much depth. ABC has really let me down on this decision.

I loved this show and have watched it since the beginning. SO disappointed. So we will never know about Kitty’s pregnancy, Nora’s old flame Brody, what happens with Daniel, Scotty and Kevins son, or Sal’s wedding. Ratings due drop when you continue to play rerun after rerun. What did you expect ABC

So sorry to see our favortie show cancelled. My husband and I both enjoyed watching each week and looked forward to seeing the story line played out. Over the years other terrific shows were cancelled, one of them being Once and Again, with Sela Ward. That show, times and days were not consistent and viewers lost tract when to turn in.
I’m with the person who asked if the TV execs ever sit and watch some of the garbage that’s on TV these days! The last piece of krap we need on TV is yet another stupid reality show ala Minute to Win It or Wipeout, and yet I just saw an ad for yet another, and even worse version of one of this genre. This is a good quality show and should not be cancelled. What are they making room for another mind-numbing reality show?? This is why people are flocking to cable channels and network TV ratings are in the toilet. Where’s the loyalty to the fans?? Bad move ABC!
