In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

My wife loves the show and it is sad to see our TV channels being filled up with cooking shows , crime dramas and reality TV. Essentially, TV is now about eating food or watching people die.
I just can’t believe it. The execs should be so proud of this show. Everyone I know loves this show and can relate it to there owns lives and own members of their family as I do. I really hope they reconsider. Even if just a shorter season to tie up some of the story. Give everyone a happily ever after, the characters and the fans.
I am soooo disappointed – I loved this show .. . such a refreshing break from the monotonous litany of cop and forensic science shows; and so well acted. Bravo to the cast – it will be terribly missed.
I am devasted that they have cancelled Brothers and Sisters…My mum and I have watched it every week…It is the only show that I watch…please please change your mind and bring it back
Really disappointed with this decision…loved the show..think ill stop watching ABC all 2gether..they always cancel the good shows and keep the stupid ones. Over ABC all together

I for one will miss Brother’s & Sisters, it was compelling, humorous, sad and funny. I could understand if it was Desperate Housewives, as much as I enjoy DH’s, the show has really run it’s course. Soon TV will be little more than awful reality shows, and utter garbage.
I can’t believe they canelled this show. I have watched every episode. I was really looking forward to seeing Nora and Brody together and the dynamic between Sarah having a father again and the others not. Also Kitty is pregnant…like you can drop that one and then cancel the freaking show. Who cares about the viewers who aren’t watching it’s about the viewers that are!!!!
I agree. I understand season cliff-hangers…but don’t leave us like that and then go and CANCEL.
So sorry this show ended! This was truly a show I enjoyed and looked forward to seeing the next episode.
I will truly miss Brothers&Sisters. It was a great show and I enjoyed watching. We will never know what would have happened to Kitty and her pregnancy. I also liked the fact that the show had gay characters and dealt with the issue of HIV since it affects so many people in the world. I looked forward to another season to see who found true happiness and wheer the plots would go. Such a shame about its cancellation. ABC should reconsider!
Truly sadden by the news of the cancelation of Brothers and Sisters! I wait patiently every week for this wonderful show about family and the closeness of a family. Plus its ups and downs and the dealing of them good or bad. It is nice to watch a show about family instead of all these reality shows!! I will miss it greatly!! 🙁
It is a shame that ABC has cancelled Brothers and Sisters. It is a wonderful show. It is one of the three shows that I watch during the week because it is well written, well acted and the plots are great! I can hardly wait for Sunday night because it is the night that Brothers and Sisters comes on. Like the previous viewer, most of the tv shows are reality shows. I totally agree! Brothers and Sisters is one of my very favorite shows, and I even watch all the reruns. It is so well thought out with good actors and charismatic characters, good stories, everything good. ABC has too many really dumb comedies. This is a show with wide appeal, and I truly wish ABC would reconsider. I love this show!
I am so disappointed to see Brothers and Sisters was canceled. The fact that reality shows seem to be taking over the networks, to me the networks are trying to “dumb down Americans”. These reality shows are so fake, it’s hard to believe that so many people watch them and the sponsors pour money into them. It would be nice if ABC would re-think this cancelation.
I can’t believe you cancelled this show. I do not watch any of the fake reality shows but I really enjoyed Desperate Housewifes and then Brothers and Sisters on Sunday nights. I think you need to rethink your ratings reviews.
