In a somewhat surprising move, the alphabet network has cut a beloved family drama after five seasons on the air. Season six of Brothers & Sisters won’t be on ABC’s fall schedule.
Brothers & Sisters debuted in 2006 and revolves around the extended Walker family of Pasadena, California. The current season features a large ensemble cast that includes Calista Flockhart, Dave Annable, Gilles Marini, Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, Patricia Wettig, Rachel Griffiths, Ron Rifkin, and Sally Field.
The family drama was nearly cancelled last year but was ultimately renewed for an abbreviated fifth season. In light of some positive ratings, ABC ordered additional episodes, bringing the season total to 22 installments. Unfortunately, those ratings didn’t last.

The numbers slowly declined over the course of the season but really seemed to take a dip in the latter part of the season, just when execs were trying to figure out if it was worth renewing. Rumors started circulating that Brothers & Sisters would be cancelled and then there was word that ABC was considering an abbreviated sixth season to wrap things up.
In the end, network execs decided there just wasn’t enough interest in the show anymore and wanted to use the post-Desperate Housewives timeslot for a new series.
As a result, last Sunday’s season finale will end up being the series finale for Brothers & Sisters. It’s a sad and unfortunate end for a once popular series.

Brothers and Sisters was a great show. Looked forward to Sunday at 10pm. At least you could have given it another year to finalize what happens to the characters. Bad choice!
I don’t get it either! All the stupid reality shows are kept on and the talk shows, there’s enough of those too! Brothers & Sisters was funny, sad, happy, stupid and we could watch this disfunctional family try to get it together! The reality shows are just a bunch of bimbos that THINK their life is so interesting… hang it up! get rid of the reality and keep Nora and family!!
Am sitting here with a room full of people and we are all SO DISAPPOINTED!!! What was ABC thinking canceling B&S. We loved the characters and the building stories of each individual! ABC has made a huge mistake!!!

I loved B & S and the cast. Each show made me laugh and cry. There are so many really awful tv shows on and they keep renewing the crap and the best one is gone. It is sad!!!!!
I am just sick about this. I had no idea the show was cancelled. I keep seeing previews of another show in that time slot. So I researched and found out ABC cancellled Brothers and Sisters. I am sick of the reality shows!! ABC also is cancelling my soap operas. It is sad when everything is about the “bottom line”. Reality is cheaper to produce but it is also lesser quality TV. I will have to reconsider watching ABC in the future. The network is a disappointment.
I’m just heartbroken! I went to look at ABC’s new schedule and couldn’t find B&S anywhere!! It never occured to me that it was CANCELLED!!! There was soooo much good stuff going on …..Brody coming into everyone’s life, Kitty’s pregnancy, Kevin and Scotty getting their son back….ackkk…I just can’t believe it!! And Desperate Housewives goes on for another year…yuck…..
At least they renewed Castle, but since I like that show, it’s days are probably numbered…..
I’m in shock. I had no idea that B&S had been cancelled. No wrap up. That is not far to end a wonderful family show just like that. You can at least brings back the show for one more season & let the fans know that this will be the final season. Tie up all the loose ends. ABC how could you treat your loyal fans that way?
R family will not be watch anything on ABC agian!!!! You guys always remove great tv show that R worth watching… You get us hooked then you take them away. What is up with you ABC??? Please bring Bro & Sis back we need to know what happens to the family. In stead of showing the reruns of B& S on saturday afternoon you should be showing us the next season.. I frickin love bros and sis’! it’s the best show in the world, it makes you cry and laugh and all the beautiful things that you can feel in the world!!! kitty’s pregnant!!! what are you gonna do about THAT??? nothing?? nothing?? you’re just gonna leave us in doubt for the remainder of our days?? that’s just the most inconsiderate thing you could ever do, we were all so loyal to the show and you’ve gone and crushed our dreams FOREVER!!!! i hope that nightmares haunt you every night, you’ll regret this for as long as tv exists…
Don’t like the idea of ABC cancelling the series..every show has a slump yet that is based on the writers. Trully enjoyed the series and could relate to a few of the characters. Only hope that the show will get picked backup with new writers……

What an incredible waste. Only REAL reality show on that deals with REAL family issues. Was disappointed in last seasons shows-could tell writers needed a boost or something but – they had such incredible actors but little drama. I am so disappointed in ABC for canceling a much needed series. I will miss seeing Sally Fields every Sunday and the much needed real life dramas of a gay couple. You are so right !! I just was looking to see when the season opener was to find it had been cancelled wow can’t believe it! My fav drama gone! My fab actors uneoyed and not there for us to watch every Sunday !! What a skim very disappointed ABC you got this one wrong !!
I am so disappointed this incredible series with all these great actors has been cancelled. This was the ONLY one show I wouldn’t miss for anything. Who really makes the final decisions here? When something works, why break it? How disappointing……..
