Call your friends! Call your family! Deadline reports BBC One has ordered three more seasons of Call the Midwife.
Set in post-WWII London, the historical drama centers on a group of nurses, nuns, and midwives. The cast includes Jessica Raine, Miranda Hart, Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, and Laura Main.
Ahead of the show’s season six premiere next year, BBC One has ordered a seventh, eighth, and ninth season of Call the Midwife in addition to three Christmas specials. Each season will be eight episodes long and see the women of Nonnatus House transition into the 1960s.
From creator Heidi Thomas:
Britain was a country fizzing with change and challenge, and there is so much rich material — medical, social, and emotional — to be explored. We have now delivered well over one hundred babies on screen, and like those babies, the stories keep on coming! Above all else, it is an incredible privilege to work on a show that is made with such care, and received with such love.”

Each year my sister and I look so forward to seeing this series. It is more than showing people about being a midwife in London; it’s about the decency and the love the midwifes, nuns and doctors extended to the mothers and mothers-to-be during very tough times. For us it is one of the greatest series ever undertaken. The acting and the scripts are second to none. I am a strong supporter of the PBS and all those associated with its productions.
