For years, some people have been asking, “When is Smallville going to end? Isn’t he Superman yet?” Well, the series ending is now in sight. But who’s decision was it?
When Smallville began, it revolved around Clark Kent (Tom Welling), a high school student who was discovering his super powers. As time has gone on, he’s learned how to use his abilities and is now balancing his heroics with his work at the Daily Plant newspaper. The show’s current cast includes Allison Mack, Callum Blue, Cassidy Freeman, Erica Durance, and Justin Hartley.
Last season, The CW network moved Smallville from its usual Thursday night timeslot to Fridays. The ratings understandably dropped quite a bit but the network still renewed the show for a 10th season. The renewal had supposedly been hinging on whether or not Welling wanted to keep doing the series.
The decision has now been made that season 10 will be the show’s last. The network was supposed to make an official announcement at the upfronts but Welling jumped the gun and told HollywoodLife at an event on Tuesday night. The actor also reflected on what he’s learned by playing Clark Kent for so long. He said, “Once you think you have perfected things, you’ve got to keep practicing. There is always something to learn! It works for me and it will work for others.”

It remains to be seen who made the decision to end the show. Did the network decide to cancel it or was the choice made on the production side? Unless Welling (who’s now 33-years-old) decided that he’d had enough, it likely comes down to a mixture of the two and simple economics. The show will have been around for 10 seasons, has gotten more expensive to produce, and doesn’t bring as much ad revenue anymore.
On top of that, there are certainly more than enough episodes to keep the show running in syndication for a long time. By the end of the show’s run, there will be enough installments for a station to play once a day for seven months without repeating.
By announcing the ending a year in advance, the network can promote Smallville’s season 10 as the last and the producers will have ample time to plan how they want to wrap things up.
What do you think? Are you glad that Smallville’s coming to an end or should it keep going? Anything you’d like to see happen? Perhaps Lex Luthor’s return?

I think smallville should continue….there is much to offer…..If the cast is available this should continue…..If a movie is created with the same cast it will promote this much more for future episodes……This is too good to end…..
i smell a spin of hope its green arrow love to see more of him wish this could go on for every
smallville can’t end. its so well written it alm0st makes u want to believe that someone somewhere like him exists i watched shows before like the new adventures of superman and such like, and non of them even down to the movies, had drawn me in like smallville has. Its not jus down to the writers but the cast more so and the characters they portray its almost believable and no one could surpass micheals portrayal of lex luther. Even down to the theme tune it simply works why make a good thing come to an end
this show should keep going. season11 is possible! there is nobody I know that wants to stop the show. I’ve been watching this show since I was in middle school. now I’m in my last year of college. and am still a die hard fan. please keep it going. tom welling says ten is a good number so did the producers in the beginning but it can go above and beyond! and get eleven!!
Ok like some of you i came to smallville late and got hooked early. it is the best superman show ever and while i grew up watching chris reaves who i admire as an actor and person he was not as good as Tom welling. my honest opinion is that the show is 20x better now than it was in the early seasons, while they were good the were alittle to 90210 teen dramay for my taste. 10 seasons is nothing to be ashamed about, but my main problem here is two fold. first, the show has not dragged except… Read more »
What about Clark’s (2013) and Lex’s future ?
what about making a new superman show?
have it come out next year with same cast ?
It’s a shame if lois finds out then that won’t be to bad as it has driven me crazy her not finding out. I still hope they will change their minds but if they don’t then at least they gave us 10 seasons of brilliant entertainment (hopefully)
I hate it I started around four and have been hook buying all the dvd tom is the best superman ever, Chris was good but the dudley do rights Superman is outdated & Tom brought a fresh look…..I hope he isn’t burned out, it would be cool to see them start a Superman titled series for WB or have him in the new movie coming out.
keep it going dont end the show
I think a spin-off will happen; superman or even better superheroes.
i dont think that the smallville series should stop it is the best superman tv show that i have seen it makes me fell and that is the whole point of an excellent show and i have found that i can stand to watch tom welling as clark kent he is wonderful as the man we have come to love as superman. i would like for the station to think about it some more i have every season from smallville.
I deeply regret that this show is ending with season 10
Clark Kent is such a mystical hero that he could be involved in many more events….
A wedding with Lois….some child who will become super boy…
What about Lois…coudlnt she acquire Clark abilities and become super woman to some
extent
Didnt you imagine Lois & Clark fighting evil together …united by unbreakable love bonds…
Both of them travelling in different part of the worls where they would solve so may problems
Actually I believe this strong couple can make many more seasons together
For real this blows man i got into the series about 3 years ago and now i can get enought you know its like the tv executives decide this man first buffy then heroes and now effing smallville my nitch i would freakin stay up for days missing work watching every episode and now it comes to an end, why unless they can’t call it smallville anymore but still come on please reconsider so as you can see no i am not ready my show to go its too sad :'(
i smell movie
