For years, some people have been asking, “When is Smallville going to end? Isn’t he Superman yet?” Well, the series ending is now in sight. But who’s decision was it?
When Smallville began, it revolved around Clark Kent (Tom Welling), a high school student who was discovering his super powers. As time has gone on, he’s learned how to use his abilities and is now balancing his heroics with his work at the Daily Plant newspaper. The show’s current cast includes Allison Mack, Callum Blue, Cassidy Freeman, Erica Durance, and Justin Hartley.
Last season, The CW network moved Smallville from its usual Thursday night timeslot to Fridays. The ratings understandably dropped quite a bit but the network still renewed the show for a 10th season. The renewal had supposedly been hinging on whether or not Welling wanted to keep doing the series.
The decision has now been made that season 10 will be the show’s last. The network was supposed to make an official announcement at the upfronts but Welling jumped the gun and told HollywoodLife at an event on Tuesday night. The actor also reflected on what he’s learned by playing Clark Kent for so long. He said, “Once you think you have perfected things, you’ve got to keep practicing. There is always something to learn! It works for me and it will work for others.”

It remains to be seen who made the decision to end the show. Did the network decide to cancel it or was the choice made on the production side? Unless Welling (who’s now 33-years-old) decided that he’d had enough, it likely comes down to a mixture of the two and simple economics. The show will have been around for 10 seasons, has gotten more expensive to produce, and doesn’t bring as much ad revenue anymore.
On top of that, there are certainly more than enough episodes to keep the show running in syndication for a long time. By the end of the show’s run, there will be enough installments for a station to play once a day for seven months without repeating.
By announcing the ending a year in advance, the network can promote Smallville’s season 10 as the last and the producers will have ample time to plan how they want to wrap things up.

This series cannot end, if it does, like michelle said make it justice league and have the plot simular to smallville’s except clark turns into superman (it better be tom welling), lex is back (really should be micheal rosenbaum), Lois lane is back (definetly should be erica durance), aand chloe (allison mack).

I am a huge Superman fan and have been with Smallville since the beginning. I was 21 when it started and I will be 31 when it ended. Smallville has been with me from a young bachelor fresh out of the military into a husband and father of 3. I have invested many years to the show, and I am looking forward to the end. I really think the show smallville should really keep on going cause there is a lot of people that loves the show and that look forward to wathing it every Friday. season 10 sucks! Story sucks! It’s too sappy! I want to see superman be superman, I don’t want too see him crying every effin episode about some stupid darkness. Hey whats the differecence between, days of out lives and Smallville………..nothing! Time to put the show out of it’s misery. Thank you

I have been watching Smallville since it started and would love to have it stay on for another season. Tom Welling, along with the rest of the cast do make the show so it wouldn’t be the same without him/them. I think Micheal Rosenbaum needs to come back though for a last crusade of either friend or foe with Tom Welling since Lex is the one who started the adventure with Clark, a great ending to the story.

they need to make a continuation series with as many of the same character in it from smallville as possible but with clark as superman cape and all.
i am a huge fan of superman and of smallville. i am sadden to here the ending of smallville which is my favorite shows but it is time for superman to get his suit and take flight but i dont believe this should be the end of superman series on tv it would great to have a continuation type series that follows the adventures of superman and takes after the events of smallville and whats happened. welling would be a great superman and durance who plays lois lane is right on. they should make a superman series that should continue… Read more »

(first sorry if my english is bad, I’m a french guy so….) They should’nt stop this tv show, here in Quebec/Canada, it’s reconized like the big tv serie to watch, everybody know about this show. Like others, I bought every season of Smallville, I don’t even bother about the fact that I cannot listen to them in french, because this show is amazing. I first started watching Smallville back in 2003 while i was doing my first tour in Iraq. I am now a big fan of the show and i have watched and purchased every season since then. They should keep the show going because the show is amazing. It certainly got our minds off the bombs and bullets going off everyday which was greatly needed at some times. So to the producers of the show please keep the show going you entertain people in more ways than you know.

hey if Tom Welling doesnt wanna do it than they should shift focus on the justice league or the future of the justice league, which is the “Legion of Superheros” i would be happy to play as one of the characters in the Legion, if Tom doesnt see what he has going 4 him than its 2 bad 4 him
