What’s This TV Show About?
An ABC reality TV series from Grant Kahler, Castaways aims to test the “human need for companionship under extreme circumstances.” The new series, with a premise that feels like a mashup of Survivor and Lost, follows real people who have been dropped off, each seemingly alone, to survive on small Indonesian islands. While they don’t know it, along the way, each will learn there are “others” like them nearby. The series also includes flashbacks to the participants’ pre-island lives.
Season One Ratings

Telly’s Take
Will ABC cancel or renew Castaways for season two? The ratings are quite low so I suspect this new series will be cancelled. There are also a few twists in the concept of the show (like participants not knowing they aren’t the only ones on the island) so producers would likely have to rework how the series works if they did make a second season. Status update: The series last aired in September 2018 and there’s been no renewal news more than a year later. It’s presumed to be cancelled.

I love this show. Dont cancel it please
I LOVED this show – I hope they bring it back. I didn’t mind that it was a little scripted in the sense of the segments that were shot prior to them being stranded on the island. The people were all very interesting – wish they would have let the viewer learn a little more about each person, not just those that lasted the longest. Would also love to hear what each person is up to, not just those that were rescued. It was a great to see something that was positive and uplifting. I wonder if each person was… Read more »
What I liked most about this show is the diverse backgrounds of the cast and how each of them endeared themselves to each other and the viewers as the season progressed. No hate. No villains. And mostly, an inspiring, happy ending. Very refreshing from the vile and divisive garbage on most television today. Too bad it was on at such a bad time (10:00 pm).
I enjoyed this show. The situation allowed for deep soul searching in individual ways for each participant. I imagine that even the ones whom didn’t stay long took something away from the experience.
The show was so indicative of life…it drew me in in so many ways. I hope it continues. Maybe a different time slot – I found it by accident, didn’t hear much about it. But LOVED it! I hope there is a second season.
I really hope that they put out a few more seasons I know it will gain more popularity. there is a large following already. i love the show.

Really enjoyed the show. The only thing is that you get involved in these characters and I would LOVE to see a “reunion” show afterwards showing how things are going rather than the weak update on their lives at the end. I felt cheated watching every episode only to get that quick blurb. Please consider it.

I Hope there is another season
Id like to be on castaways. After my husband died all three of my sisters died back to back. Id like some clearity and deep soul searching.
I throughly enjoyed the show and hope it’s renewed for season 2.
Love the show, Robbie was the greatest inspiration ever, and Kenzi is awesome, would love to see all 12 united and a reunion type gathering to show how they all are now, who remains freinds, etc

STUPID IDEA for a show
So whats the prize for lasting the longest . Why would anyone put any effort into this if there is no gain
Seriously? the GAIN is the experience. I guess the show is more for those who aren’t so hung up on monetary gain but maybe what it means to be human? to survive? to look within? to grow, to have compassion and lift up etc. This is probably one of the BEST shows I have seen. Simple, and very inspiring. Open your spirit more and you too will appreciate the show. Life is more than money and prizes. Sometimes the prize is getting back to the root of it.
Spot on! I really hope this show gets renewed, it speaks for the quality of the participants when they’re in this for the experience, rather than some grand prize. I’ll take this show over another season of Survivor anytime!
Les you could not be more correct. I loved the show. For once there was a show where everyone was a winner. Everyone learned something about themselves that they may have known but did not want to accept. EXCELLENT show. I hope they do more.
