TV show description:
From writers Luke Davies and David Michôd, the Catch-22 TV show is a mini-series based on the Joseph Heller novel of the same name. The military bureaucracy satire centers on John Yossarian (Abbott), a US bombardier in World War II.
Yossarian, or “YoYo,” is mad as hell that so many people he doesn’t even know want to kill him. It’s not so much the enemy themselves, as it is the Army. Every time Yossarian is close to completing the number of missions needed to separate from the service, they up the quota.
The titular “Catch-22” is a perverse regulation from which there is no escape. It states that anyone who is afraid for his safety in the face of danger must be sane; a man who willingly undertakes dangerous combat missions must be crazy, but if he requests to be relieved of this duty, by doing so, he presents evidence that he is of sound mind and will not be removed.
While in cadet school in California, Yossarian engages in an affair with the restless Marion Scheisskopf (Emery). Despite her melancholy streak, Marion connects with YoYo on every level, which brings out her playful side. There’s just one problem — she’s stuck in an unhappy marriage with Colonel Scheisskopf (Clooney), YoYo’s parade-obsessed training commander.
Although YoYo is sent overseas, he just cannot escape the angry Scheisskopf — even in the Mediterranean Theater. YoYo’s life is further complicated by Colonel Cathcart (Chandler), a full bird colonel who keeps increasing the mission quota.
At their base, on the island of Pianosa, YoYo begs Doc Daneeka (Heslov) to declare him unfit for duty, and it falls to the medic to explain the infamous “Catch-22.” Meanwhile, YoYo’s panic grows as his friends start dying off.
Series Finale:
Episode #6
Alive and intact, Yossarian is thwarted by an old adversary. Confronted by a devastating loss, he undergoes a transformation.
First aired: May 17, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the Catch-22 TV series? Would you have watched a second season?
This has become one of my favorite shows of all time. Such beautiful, titular, emotionally rich and well written filmography. I hope to see another season to make it more final.
only saw the pilot will it come back in reruns
Another season, at least, is warranted. Acting, writing , costuming, filming were exceptional. I only wish we could see more of this quality. Too bad it’s over.
