Last season, CBS introduced only seven new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three, renewed three, and one (Supergirl) moved to The CW. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 48 Hours: NCIS, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Rice, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Bull, Candy Crush, The Case Of, CBSN: On Assignment, Code Black, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Doubt, Elementary, The Great Indoors, Hawaii Five-0, Hunted, Kevin Can Wait, Life in Pieces, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Man with a Plan, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Pure Genius, Ransom, Salvation, Scorpion, Superior Donuts, Survivor, Training Day, Undercover Boss and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Madam Secretary is the best show on tv…. I enjoy a tv show that makes you think….if it wasn’t always getting moved around because football always goes late I think more people would watch…. Please keep this program…
Pure Genius is the Best show on TV
Please keep PURE GENIUS on it is an excellent show
Please renew Code Black for a third season, best show on tv
Man with a plan is the best sitcom we have seen in a very long time. All my friends are starting to watch it now. It makes me laugh out loud. Very good show!
Please keep “Madame Secretary” on. Sad, we are, when missing it is from the Sunday schedule.
Ditto. Ditto. Ditto! GOF
“Madame Secretary.” Keep it! Next best after “West Wing.” We eagerly await each “Secretary” episode and are unhappy when it’s not on.
Obviously, lots of people aren’t unhappy that it isn’t on in the 18-49 age group, because it can’t even average a 1.0 I don’t know what it is averaging in the 24-54 ratings, but Castle was a better show even when its ratings plummeted. CBS is looking for a sucker to buy it for syndication. That’s the only reason it is still on.
I love the new show, Pure Genius. It just keeps getting better. I hope it stays on for many seasons. My friends and I love to Watch it. Please make sure that season two is terrific just like season one is.
NCIS LA has been moved three times to different days and times. They stay in the top no matter what day or time they are on. That is saying a lot. My favorite shows are NCIS La,Blue Blood and Bull. If Cote was on Bull with Michael it would be number 1. Just my opinion!
If Cote de Pablo had taken the $200,000 per episode she was offered and not screamed bloody murder when they raised Michael Weatherly to $250,000 per episode, they both might still be on NCIS. How’s that?
Code Black is an excellent series. Marcia Gay Hardin is a great actress and her character has been intriguing. The loss of other actors and especially, Luiz, Mama is lame. CBS needs read the audience better. Conviction is also a good series. Criminal minds is all about torture. Can’t stand to watch. Criminal Minds has gone bad to worse.
Criminal Minds is torture?!?!? What is wrong with you?!?! I suspose that you’re somebody who likes 2 Broke Girls & Big Brother! B.
I think they are cancelling great shows they keep doing this and I am going to stop watching TV, conviction, elementary, Quantico and blindspot are my favorite just like constatine and others that are already cancelled you guys suck
I’m rooting for all NCIS shows and scorpion and elemtary criminal minds Hawaii 5-0 blue bloods mcgyver without these CBS would be boring
Right on I like them shows myself and hoping they get renewed .
Why are they still using these laughingmachines? I hate it . I don’t want to be ‘told’ that something is funny , I decide for myself if something is funny. I like ‘Man with a plan’ ( watched 2 ep.) but I refuse to watch it as long as they keep using laughingmachines.
I’ll never watch it again w/o Thomas Gibson.
Please give PURE GENIUS a full season chance. It is performing second in its time slot, only slightly behind THE BLACKLIST, which keeps hinting at cancellation, and HOW TO GET…MURDER is dropping like a rock. There is nothing like GENIUS on TV, and it’s a refreshing option with positive, uplifting storylines, unlike the blood, gore and evil on the other stations.
