Last season, CBS introduced only seven new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three, renewed three, and one (Supergirl) moved to The CW. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 48 Hours: NCIS, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Rice, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Bull, Candy Crush, The Case Of, CBSN: On Assignment, Code Black, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Doubt, Elementary, The Great Indoors, Hawaii Five-0, Hunted, Kevin Can Wait, Life in Pieces, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Man with a Plan, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Pure Genius, Ransom, Salvation, Scorpion, Superior Donuts, Survivor, Training Day, Undercover Boss and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I have herd that Code Black may be on the chopping block. Please keep the series going. I love the show
KEEP CODE BLACK TOO.
PLEASE PLEASE Don’t cancel “Code Black”! I am a nurse and that is THE best medical show I have ever seen!! After watching the season 2 finale, I was in tears, but that happened on every episode. It’s not just about medicine, it’s about people from all walks of life, all with different stories, and it brings a sence of unity & love. It makes you realize just how much we have in common with each other. How connected the human spirit really is. Rob Lowe brought a lot to season 2. His character is outstanding. When my daughter told… Read more »
I think Jonny Lee Miller is currently the best and most appealing TV actor on CBS. He is the most underrated actor on this channel and unfortunately doesn’t get his just do for his wonderful talent!
I’m a fan of “Elementary”, but the sound level of the show is very low, and when a commercial comes on the sound level is very high.
With the poor ratings it has, how long before “Training Day” gets pulled from the schedule? “Elementary” could always return to the Thursdays-at-10-pm timeslot, but I think it would be too little too late at this point. Also, I can’t believe that season two of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” still hasn’t been assigned a timeslot.
Please renew Pure Genius! It is the best new show in quite some time! Quality programming for a change!
I would like you to renew pure genus . because I like it and so does my son that one of can show we watch together.the others show are ncis all three of them Hawaii five o MacGyver. Bull . criminal mind. Too name a few that we watch .oh big bang theory too should all be renew blue blood too . I could go on and on of show that should be renewed . and rush hour should be renewed too .
We love Hunted!!! It is fresh and different and keeps us on the edge of our seat every time.
Finally! One of the few shows on TV where you can’t sneeze & not miss something! This has got to come back for Season 2, just to see if the new batch of Hunted think they can outsmart the Hunters! We’re always talking about how technology has advanced, at the office; especially after the “edge-of-your-seat” episodes! Please keep us entertained & challenged & rooting for the Hunted!
I really hope Code black gets renewed for a season 3,it is an awesome show, and a lot of people will be upset if it is cancelled.
I really enjoyed Code Black this season with Rob Lowe on it. The first season was mediocre, but Season 2 knocked it out of the ball park. My husband quit watching season 1 after two shows, but he was hooked on Season 2. The eqisode where Dr. Campbell had his deep brain stimulation was one of the best television shows I have ever seen. My husband and I talked about that episode for hours. Code Black is worthy of another season.
Not with those ratings it isn’t. They can’t renew this and Madam Secretary without taking a major hit, and they will bring back Madam Secretary for one more season because then they pray they can sell it into syndication. The truth is, both shows should be cancelled.
Internationally it does’t do so badly, so hopefully, the international viewership is enough to give Code Black a third season
and Madam Secretary is not going anywhere
Pleas, please, pleaaaseeee renew Code Black. It’s my favorite show and the first show I think of when I think of TV.
Elementary is a great show just needs a better night!
DO NOT CANCEL CODE BLACK. IT IS THE BEST SHOW IN TV!!! Great stories! Love the characters!
Totally agree! Keep Code Black on the air!
I Love code black!! The second season was awesome. Season finale superb. They must come back for another season!!!
I love the new Ransom. Hostage negotiation is an intriguing subject. The amount of people skills needed to negotiate with a potential killer is phenomenal. I commend the men and women that can take a potentially hopeless situation and talk the hostages to safety. We need more shows like this so people can see the good that law enforcement does instead of focusing on the negative. Luke Roberts is an amazing actor and does an outstanding job as Eric Beaumont. He captures Eric’s non-violent unemotional (as it should be) approach in an uncanny realistic manner. I was hooked the first… Read more »
Please please please please PLEASE renew Code Black. I am in love, and I don’t even watch TV! It’s the ONLY show I turn my tv on to watch.
