Last season, CBS introduced only seven new shows during the regular season. They cancelled three, renewed three, and one (Supergirl) moved to The CW. How will their new programming do in the ratings this time around? Stay tuned.
CBS shows this season (so far): 2 Broke Girls, 48 Hours, 48 Hours: NCIS, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Rice, The Big Bang Theory, Big Brother, Blue Bloods, Bull, Candy Crush, The Case Of, CBSN: On Assignment, Code Black, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Doubt, Elementary, The Great Indoors, Hawaii Five-0, Hunted, Kevin Can Wait, Life in Pieces, MacGyver, Madam Secretary, Man with a Plan, Mom, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, The Odd Couple, Pure Genius, Ransom, Salvation, Scorpion, Superior Donuts, Survivor, Training Day, Undercover Boss and Zoo.
There’s lots of data that CBS execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing so far.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
I give up with this network! The crazy things but they’re doing what they’re leaving it with their adding is unbelievable. I’m gonna say bye-bye to the network.!
Please keep Elementary on the air. It is a wonderful show that my husband and I watch together. The dialogue is magnificent and the acting is superior. We love the show.
Got sixth season returned so happy elementary so great show people please listen words of wisdom watch whole entire show that don’t count turn tv off but please keep watch the best detective ever made.
Please keep Code Black and Pure Genius!
I thought that Pure Genius was one of the best show ever… also “Doubt” is excellent ,, please keep it on the air.
KEEP CODE BLACK!!! PLEASE!!!
YES!!! I Would like to add my eleventh hour plea PLEASE KEEP CODE BLACK!!!
Please keep Code Black on our viewer lineup. It is a great show. Always moving, and lots of action. All round great show.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited to the point where I literally can’t wait for the next episode and get bummed when the season ends (as it did far too early for PG) for a show on network TV. I hope CBS takes into consideration the pure genius behind this show. Just last week CHOP (the children’s hospital of Philadelphia) announced its progress in the development of an ‘external womb’ for severely premature babies, something I figured that arguably the worlds best children’s hospital WAS working on after seeing the episode covering this topic this season. PLEASE… Read more »
The Jack ass 18-49 demo’s determined this to be cancelled
Please renew RANSOM and Pure Genius! These two shows are very unique and interesting. There’s NO other show like Ransom….Pure Genius, yes there’s other medical shows but this one is so positive and in the rough times in the world it’s nice to see people that believe in miracles! renew both!!!!!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, don’t take CODE BLACK off the air. It’s such a great show. So interesting and different real life dramas. We could hardly wait each week for it to be on. One of our very favorite shows. Can’t you change days or time slots or something????? PLEASE,PLEASE RECONSIDER, AND LEAVE IT ON????? TWO LOYAL FANS. We watch tons of things on CBS.One of our favorite networks. Thank You.
Yes. I’m hooked … line and sinker … and I’m hoping hard CBS decides to renew CODE BLACK..
Love the intelligence, quirkiness and edginess of “Elementary”…..please give it another season!! So much fun to watch!!
Thank you!!
I loved Pure Genius. I can’t believe it got better ratings than some of the other shows and I heard it got cancelled. It’s so hard to find a good show on TV.
Please do not give up on Pure Genius! It is a wonderful show. After I told some of my friends about it and they watched, they loved it and were sorry they had not seen the previous episodes. Please do renew it!! It is a show that I waited anxiously for each week. I was never disappointed in any of the story lines.
I have always heard that one letter represents another 1000 people who feel the same as the writer. Please consider this as one thousand and one viewers!
Thank you so much for your consideration.
I enjoy Code Black
Please renew
It’s more realistic than the other medical shows
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t cancel The Odd Couple. It’s in my top 5 favs!!!
Mine too!
Code Black is one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time! So intense and such a wonderful cast! Give it a chance people!! I also love 2 Broke Girls and The Odd Couple and Mom. Please do not cancel these shows! So tired of reality shows! I want to go back to the day of the funny sitcom! Many have been renewed that are not good but these great shows may get cancelled?! Dumb!
I really enjoy Elementary. I would be disappointed if it was not renewed.
