Chesapeake Shores is returning for its fifth season next month, and new details have been released about the season ahead — including the exit of Jesse Metcalfe’s character. The actor has played one-half of the main romance on the Hallmark drama series since the show began in 2016, but he announced his plans to depart earlier this year. Metcalfe did return to film some final scenes for season five.
At the end of season four, viewers saw Trace (Metcalfe) and Abby (Meghan Ory) kiss and reconcile. TV Insider revealed that season five will pick up months later and a flashback will see Trace leave town after a big blowout with Abby.
Abby may, however, find love with a new character named Evan, played by Robert Buckley. Abby joins dad Mick (Treat Williams) at O’Brien Construction and they are hired to build a boutique hotel. It may not be smooth sailing though. Ory said the following about the changes for her character:
“Even though it’s hard and Abby’s saying goodbye to things that weren’t working in her life, she’s moving forward. Abby is finally taking control of her life for her.”
Chesapeake Shores will return to Hallmark Channel on August 15th.

Happy it’s coming back the show will not be the same without Trace and Abby being together. We as fans tuned in weekly waiting patiently for their romance to turn into marriage. The girls loved him and she did too! Always when something works and rating is up in a show . They manage to put the brakes on a good show! Trace and Abby were the fruit if the show i can not imagine it withiut them together i will leave the show with Trace
I am not excited about the return since Trace is leaving the show. I will not be watching when the show return. Trace and Abby made the show the other charters were not exciting at all. Without Trace I would be surprised if the show will make it.
Sorry you couldn’t have found a way to keep Trace on and have the two get married. I have watch for 5 yrs an thought this yr there will be a marrage. Farewell

Im glad Trace is leaving. I got tired of his scowling. I watch because I love the O’Brien family and the siblings! Glad Robert Buckley is aboard!

I hate when a movie doesn’t follow the books. Why does he have to come back just to leave couldn’t they just replace Trace’s character. Do you realize how bad that makes people feel don’t we have enough heartache in this world.
