Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
Are you KIDDING me???? Did the executives not watch the opening episode for Season 3? IT WAS THE BEST EVER!!! HOW CAN YOU CANCEL A SHOW THIS GOOD?!?!?!?! The problem was YOUR fault for not putting Code Black in the regular season in the fall. I, too, do not fall in the age bracket you base your thought process of television shows but I am faithfully watching every week….It’s NOT RIGHT! Keep it up CBS and you may lose more faithful viewers than you thought. PLEASE, PLEASE Netflix or Fox or Any other station, PLEASE pick up this show….the cast,… Read more »
I love this show…..the actors and the characters. So disappointed that it has been cancelled and truly hope it will be picked up by another network. Marcia Gay Harden and Luis Guzman are great actors and play wonderful, interesting characters. I agree with K.N. Code Black has been treated like a step child.

Really like Code Black. But you guys must another dumb comedy or news show.
NOOOOoooooooooooo.. really loved this show ..think the saddest epi when Mama’s ” Luis Guzmán” role , older brother came in .. all my favorite shows , being cancelled ….”BIG SIGH” I dont do reality shows either
NO!!!!! I am soooooooooooo very not happy upon learning of Code Black’s cancellation. NOT HAPPY. I don’t know much about how this tv series stuff ‘works’, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that some other network (?) or entity like Netflix or somesuch will “pick the series up” and resume ASAP!!!!
I very much enjoyed season one, but I didn’t bother watching the next couple because of the cast changes; my favourite characters had gone. It was a great show, but I just didn’t feel it worth watching afterward.
Loyal fans, great stories and it was an emotional rollercoaster to watch. Love this show! I hope a cable channel or Netflix scoops this up. It probably belonged there in the first place. Very little publicity for Season 3 premiere but it got better ratings than some of the shows CBS picked up. It’s no wonder that people are tuning in to cable and Netflix instead of network shows.
I love love Code Black. I am so upset that it’s being cancelled. The acting is the best, the story lines are awesome. Sorry to see it go!!!
This show Code Black is a great show Big Mistake to cancel it. I loved this show never missed it.
That’s a really poor decision by CBS. My wife & I love this show & feel it’s their own fault for waiting so long to commit to a Season 3 that it couldn’t be scheduled until May, allowing viewers to find alternate shows starting last September when Code Black should have come on. Ratings are down? What a shocker. Kind of like killing your parents and then asking for mercy on the grounds that you’re an orphan. Self inflicted. Intelligence on TV. Who wants that?
I really like Code Black. I wish it would not be cancelled.
Are you SERIOUS CBS???? I’m to the point that I don’t want to watch any new shows, just stick with the the shows left on TV that I LOVE as I did Code Black and once all my shows become cancelled then I will sell my TV. I’m so disappointed and upset that the fantastic shows with good storylines and cast get cancelled by the execs because I don’t fit in their demographic age group. You have messed up royally by cancelling Code Black but oh right I don’t count because I’m not 18-49. But is our country now isn’t… Read more »
AMEN EVIE!!!!
Couldn’t agree more! Bachelor and Bachelorette? I can’t believe people are dumb enough to watch this scripted crap. Trash, that’s all executives put out. You did not try very hard to support this quality show! Bull and Code Black would have been great together. I never watch a show when it’s on. Use my DVR for everything.
Bummed. This is very depressing news.
FOX should pick this up. With 5.5 million viewers it would be one of FOXs top rated shows.
Quailty show…what a disappointment.
