Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.

This makes me SO angry!!! Try starting the show in September with the rest of the shows instead of April. Maybe then people would watch it. This is one of the best written dramas on TV. #savecodeblack

Sad Sad Sad. Code Black is one of my favourite medical shows after Grey’s. So many good shows leaving the air this year.

Definitely keep Code Black! I love the series, which I only recently discovered!
Yet again another great show cancelled. I’m beginning to wonder about the intelligence of those making these decisions.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to see this great medical show cancelled. Great actors. Great writers. Great content. I have cried, sighed and thoroughly enjoyed every episode for 3 seasons. No sex, no smut, no soap opera drama… like another medical show.
Please reconsider and try to bring this wonderful show back. There are so many devout fans. It is a
very sad day when a quality show like this is terminated. There are so many other shows that should be axed. NOT THIS ONE!
I love this show and very disappointed it is ending, but when it took such a long time to come back, I saw the writing on the wall.
Another great show cancelled. I would rather they cancel the melodramatic Grey’s Anatomy. That show isn’t about the patients as much as about the doctors and their love lives and problems. Its silly!
At least Code Black has excellent actors and great writing.

I like Code Black and will miss it. Boo to CBS for cancelling it. CBS also cancelled Scorpion, another show I like. I may just have to cancel CBS. I’m hoping since Michael S. says he was expecting no season 4 and wrote the last episode of season 3 that it won’t have a cliffhanger ending. If so, I will be buying the DVD’s and say an honest and genuine THANKS! I hate cliffhangers and all shows seem to have them with no thought to the viewers and if there will be a next season.
