Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
Please do not cancel this show. The two hour episodes was exceptional. My husband and I watch very little TV. This is one show we do not miss when on. Please do not cancel just yet.
I don’t typically watch medical dramas but I LOVE Code Black! It’s a wonderful, truly humanist show and there are not too many of them anymore! Please reconsider and keep this show on air!!
Do not cancel this show please
Did you see this week’s ratings? Code Black ROCKS!!!!
I am absolutely upset about code Black being cancelled. I love this show as do my friends. I was so excited when it came on this season. Why do all the good shows get cancelled. I am upset. Please don’t cancel it.
I am so shocked that Code Black is being cancelled!! Code Black is the best medical show on TV if it had been a fall show instead of mid season I believe it would’ve been the number 1 medical drama! It is so authentic focusing on actual events that could happen in a hospital rather than focusing on the love life of its characters. The actors starring in Code Black are great in their portrayals. I feel the roles Marcia Gay Harding and Rob Lowe are portraying are the best they’ve ever done!! Please save Code Black and start season… Read more »
I am devastated! Code Black has been one of my favorite shows. I so wish you would reconsider! When I think of all the mediocre and downright bad shows on TV that are being renewed, I just can’t understand how this show with its great writing and wonderful ensemble could go under. I credit this partly to the truly stupid job of starting the show mid season. This allowed people to get hooked in to other shows. I wouldn’t have even known it was going to be back if it hadn’t been for this forum. I really don’t know what… Read more »
Sorry to see this program go. I feel it is a good, quality program that needs to have a more vetted look at before being tossed. The programing is good as well as the acting.
Please reconsider your decision to cancel Code Black. It it one of the most authentic medical dramas on the air.
I am not happy about this at all!!! I love this show. There is not many good shows on anymore. This one has good views on life and not ******** like pregnant teens and drugs. You should really reconsider …and not being on another shot show!
Yep, dropping CBS too. You’ve cancelled my favorite shows. Why would I watch you anymore? You’ll just add more idiotic “reality” shows. Who ever is making these stupid decisions must be on drugs!!!!!
This SUCKS! Code Black is an awesome medical drama and deserved to be continued. CBS Execs need to get their heads on straight. They only pay attention to one demographic and rarely support their shows in a real sense. I hope Code Black KILLS it in resell market!
I have watched Code Black from day 1 I don’t understand why all these shows are getting canceled. These are great shows. Please renew Code Black. All my favorite shows are on CBS and this makes two that are not getting renewed scorpion is the other. Maybe if the TV stations will stop renewing these dumb shows like reality shows, bachelorette, bachelor, survivor those kind of shows then people would watch the normal shows again. Very disappointed.
I enjoyed the show but in the beginning it had a real edge that has been sanded down a little and has become softer.
But despite this, it is still a good show and I hope that they wrap things up correctly.
I agree with the others. I love Code Black and will truly miss it . I also agree that if it started in the fall more people would find the show. I find more of the shows my husband and I like are being cancelled, and there are less shows that we watch every year. Like Grey’s Anatomy, this is a quality show where we care about the characters.
