Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.
EP Michael Seitzman Confirms Code Black Has Been Cancelled by CBS
Making sure to thank the fans, Seitzman, whose Quantico on ABC also fell prey to the Television Vulture, announced Code Black will not return for season four. Check out what he has to say about the remaining episodes and anticipating the need for a Code Back TV series finale.

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Code Black TV series? If it were up to you, would it be cancelled or renewed for season four on CBS? Sound off in the comments.
So, so, disappointed!! Why did CBS cancel code black? It was the best drama on! Please bring it back, please!!
I am so disappointed that Code Black is not being renewed another season. We thoroughly enjoy the show.
I and my wife and friends all totally enjoy Code Black. I think it’s to early to cancel this series. If you look at how badly M.A.S.H. was expected to do and did in the beginning. And them to what it became you will see my point. C.B.S. you should keep the show for 1 even 2 more seasons and you will see that it will become a long running and successful show. Exceeding expectations. And continuing to capitre the hearts and souls of the shows ever growing fan base. Also if you broadened the advertising for the show and… Read more »
I am sad to see this show go. I have always been a faithful fan. Unfortunately everything rests on the younger demo.
I am in shock that Code Black was cancelled. I just spent 30 minutes at dinner tonight telling all my friends they should see if past seasons were on Netflix and catch up. This season was the best ever. I was mesmerized by every episode and found myself with a few tears rolling down my cheek at least once each episode. It seems that all the networks are taking away all the good shows and leaving the junk! If CBS cancels Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, or SWAT I will quit watching it completely, Like Hawaii Five-O too but none as… Read more »
Code Black was the only medical show that didn’t turn into a stupid soap opera! I’m so tired of good shows being canceled to make way for lowest common denominator crap.
One of our favorite shows. Bummer.
I love Code Black, please save this show!
I really looked forward to the return of Code Black in the spring and I am disappointed that it has been cancelled. Not sure how ratings are judged…. Maybe it can be picked up on a different station.
We LOVE this show. We are deeply saddened that CBS is taking this show off the air. We loved that it didn’t have the sec and vulgarity that is prevalent in most of the shows on TV. This show will be greatly missed.
I am getting soooooo sick and tired of my FAVORITE shows getting CANCELED!!!!! It’s like why bother paying for satellite???!!! It might be time to consider changing my package and watching more NETFLIX!!!!! This show is soooooo amazing!!!!! I really wish it could stay!!!!!!
My husband and I waited each week for the new episode of Code Black. It was one of the best and enlightening shows on TV. It was always exciting and left us with how wonderful the ER docs and nurses are. What can be done to bring it back? It seems that whatever we learn to love is canceled. I wonder why that is????
As far as our family is concerned, this is one of the best shows on TV. It has heart, which is seriously lacking in this world today, lack of empathy for our fellow man. All I can say, CBS, we are truly disappointed! BRING IT BACK, PLEASE!!!
What a disappointment to see this cancelled. I really enjoy this show. There is so much emotion, suspense and a great story line. I hate to see this go.
hate that they canceled this medical drama . Such an amazing cast and good stories. Very disappointed . Time to charge up the Kindle.
