Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.

please don’t cancel this show. I’ve watched it since the first show and love this show. I agree with everyone else about reality and game shows ( sick of them ). why is it that your opinion only matters if your between 18- 49 ? what about those of us that are over 49, don’t we have an opinion and say so too? It just seems like anything that we all seem to watch gets canceled and that’s just wrong. maybe if enough of us complain someone will reconsider what we want to watch for a change.
So sick!! I notice no networks canceled any so called reality shows!!! Those are so fake. Using beautiful men and women because they can’t get a spouse? Right. 18 to 49 demographics? So any of us senior citizens (I’m 71) should curl up and die?? I lost Code Black, Night Shift, Lucifer (favorite), Designated Survivor, Exorcist, The Brave…Guess I will have to drop networks and stick with Hulu and Netflix, just watch movies.
I cannot believe this show is cancelled, it is an amazing show with amazing actors. Some of the shows on television are pathetic, brainless shows, especially the reality show, ie: singing, dancing, marriages. I agree some are okay but how many do you need, really. Please bring this show back, it has all aspects of a great show. If you want reality, this show is reality. Bring it Back!!!

Really? Cancelled? I understand that the shows are rated on how many viewers there are at the time of airing. If this is true, they need a new system. I am sure there are many, many people out their that record their shows because they have to be up at wee hours of the morning to go to work. I record all my shows!! I am up at 4am.
Just because someone is not watching at the time the show comes on, it doesn’t mean that they are not watching.

Please renew this show!!! Revive it!! It has made me laugh and cry and believe there are really good doctors and nurses who work for us every day. Any show that can bring awareness into the light, is golden. Please don’t let this go …
I would renew the show!!! It is an awesome show!!! Better then some of the other ones aired like the bachelor and the bachelorette!!! They also cancel the good shows and leave the bad ones on air!!! Who cares if a guy finds a woman to marry or the other way around…….that just craziness!!’ Leave Code Black alone it’s a darn good show!!! A lot better then those other ones!!’ It makes me not want to watch anything on that network!!
Code Black is one of the best TV shows ever. I found it by accident during season 2. I never knew it was out there. Perhaps the low viewership has nothing to do with the show but with the lack of informing the tv audience it’s even out there. Maybe you could reevaluate and give this great TV drama another shot along with a much better marketing plan. It’s too good to let go of!
