Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. Although the production utilized the extraordinary measures of amputating some original series regulars (Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville) and grafting on a big name (Rob Lowe), the patient eventually succumbed to acute ratings anemia.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, Moon Bloodgood, and Lowe. The story unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — home of the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. The high patient volume dwarfs the resources available to the exceptional staff — creating a condition known as Code Black.
According to Seitzman despite the cancellation, the third season should continue to air in its regular timeslot. Because he expected the there would be no season four, it seems the team wrote the season three finale to serve as a series finale. Check out what he has to say, below.
Code Black: A Look at the Ratings
The third season of Code Black, which just kicked off on April 25th, is averaging a 0.71 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.448 million viewers. Compared to season two, that’s down by about 26% and 9%, respectively.
Of the 27 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking during the regular 2017-18 television season, Code Black ranks 23rd in the demo. That number only rises to 21st, when we sort by average total audience. In other words, the cancellation makes business sense.

One of the best shows to ever hit the air! I can’t believe that yet another quality show bites the dust. I was skeptical when Rob Lowe joined the cast. All of the characters have been amplified since! Truly a writing masterpiece. Please bring this show back in place of the reality garbage. Some of us really don’t care how the select few live. Not exactly sure how the ratings are collected but it seems to be false data. Demographics are an issue. Again. Masterpiece writing and cast are top notch!

I’m so upset to hear that code black is canceled. It is one of the best shows I’ve seen on tv in a long time. The story line and cast are perfect!! Please bring it back on another network!!! I enjoy this show so much!! It’s one of the few shows my husband and I watch together.
please don’t take this show off, it;s the only true drama series that can make a person cry or laugh something that we can respond to I get gooose bumps watching and waiting for the next part very outstanding show. maybe try too get the rating up by allowing it to come on earlier than ten at night thank God I can record and watch it the next moring.

Code Black is the best TV medical Drama since House! I am truly sad that it is being cancelled. It was accurate, and yet so heartfelt and moving! The writing was great. Finally a great show and people don’t watch it. It isn’t violent, or risque enough, just plain good TV. I am so sad. I will miss this show greatly.
The one show on this summer that was worth watching and CBS cancels it! I have watched Code Black since it began three years ago, and this season 3 was the best by far. Marcia Gay Hardin and Rob Lowe have both been phenomenal actors in this series as was the rest of the cast. Now we can watch the reality shows like Big Brother, The Proposal (give me a break!) This show deserved to be saved. CBS is stupid. Plain stupid! You could have done more to save this quality program!! Oh wait, I forgot, you do not care about those who want QUALITY in broadcasting!! FOX, PICK UP THIS PROGRAM!!
I am so sadden and disappointed on the news that Code Black has been cancelled! In may opinion, it is one of the best shows I’ve watched it a long time, from the beginning, and I am somewhat of an expert on TV! I am so sick of nothing but realty shows! This show is done amazingly well, the cast is perfect for their parts the stories are wonderful! I just finished watching, what I assume is the next to last episode, and it was awesome as always. My boyfriend and I love love this show you can’t cancel this great show Stop making wrong choices this show is good ratings drop because people have lives but the comfort is that they can record there favorite show and watch it!! You don’t have any idea how many people are watching a recording of Code Black CBS your wrong again!!!!

Code Black has been the best medical show on TV. So much better than the other medical series—both past and present. I will miss this wonderful show.
I should have added, I agree with others. If there is any way to not cancel this show, please don’t. I wait every week for Code Black. Season 3 was the best yet. I love the way it’s NOT a soap opera. Good character development. Please reconsider!!!
My wife and I enjoyed the show…it was not the usual mindless bubblegum horse **** that comes out of Hollywood.
