Though the ratings for CBS’ Cold Case this season seem to be dooming the series to be cancelled, series star Kathryn Morris isn’t ready to say goodbye to the unique crime drama just yet.
Cold Case is unique in that each episode begins with an unsolved crime from the past. The scene then flashes forward to the present day and a group of homicide detectives try to piece together what really happened, using old evidence and new interviews. The series stars Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, and Tracie Thoms.
In an interview with the LA Times, Morris says that her role as Lilly Rush is still interesting for her to play, even within the confines of a crime procedural. She said, “Lilly has evolved from being this little beat cop to this hungry cold case detective to a person who has expanded her sole capacity. Not just with the suspects, or the victims. She has really evolved into a person that is as real to me as a relative of mine. It’s a pretty cool thing to have for this many years.”
Though she’s been doing Cold Case for seven seasons, Morris feels the show is still going strong. “I’m in talks for a couple of great independent films concurrent with Cold Case, but the show is having its best season ever if you ask me. To me when actors get restless on series, I find them to be a little on the lazy side. I’m still looking to be a better actor, and I’m grateful every day.”
In terms of the show’s ratings struggle, Morris says the series’ viewers are unique and that the writers are doing their best to attract the target demographic. She said, “Well, we have fans that have followed us wherever we go. And our audience actually watches the show when it airs, they don’t DVR it. That’s a big difference. We are trying to do more cases aimed at 18- to 49-year-olds, though. Like we just did a skateboard episode, and a fight club episode.”
What do you think? Will Cold Case survive to see season eight or is it time for the show to be over?

I hope Cold Case stays
This show will probably go off the air because I like it so much. I love the characters on the show and we are just starting to get to know them better after 7 years. What show can you watch that will remind you of our country’s history. It’s like having two shows in one, the murder mystery and history of what was going on in our past add that time. I hope CBS doesn’t cancel this program.
Don’t end a show just because of ratings not coming in….. they should stop end lost coz, how long can u stay on a island and not get rescued? Not very long..3months maybe…
Cold Case is very indepth Crime series, simialr to the X-Files, which uncover unsovled murders…I hope they don’t end it, because Kathryn Morris is a very good actress and i’d hate to see her hurt in ways we can’t imagine.
I’d lean towards the likelihood of suspecting this will probably be the last season. Judging from the number of plots the writers are cramming in this season, it looks as if they’re trying to get it every idea they got while they can.
Don’t get me wrong. I’ll be delighted if an eighth season presents itself. We’ll see.
i think that crime series is my favourite everrr 🙂
im waiting for new episodes of cold case or csi
Really ? This is a joke, right? What the hell is going on,why are they getting rid of all the great shows and keeping the crap, how many more CSI’s and Law and Order’s do we need? There are so many GREAT shows that are being put to death……think I will stop watching T.V. and just rent movies! The heads of the networks need to give their heads a shake!
it s good but without a trace should have stayed instead the problem is football after 8 00 pm football should just be t a score bar at the bottom of the screen or put it on a sports channel so everyones happy
I hope it survives since most of the show deals with the subject matter and a little personal problems that do not overshadow the reason for the good show. Love the endings!!!!!
cold case is alot better than csi or ncsi those shows suck! i think cold case is way better than both of em!
I love “Cold Case” but i agree with everyone else, between “Amazing Race” (which should be up for cancellation ) and football this show is doomed. “Cold Case” is one of the series which I have set my DVR to record and because the timing was off I was always missing the ending but I have adjusted settings so hopfully that will help. My biggest complaint is that the rating system does not take people like me who record shows for later viewing, and why? because most shows now have 1/2 hr. commercials and 1/2 hr actual show, it’s incredable!… Read more »
I have been a fan of this show since day one. I like the premise, the music, the actors, the theme song…everything. There are sadly enough unsolved crimes that could be used for inspiration for episodes of this show forever so I think the actors would get sick of playing these rolls long before they ran out of story ideas. I dont think the lead character could simply move to another crime show because Cold Case is so unique and it will be a devestating blow if the series is taken off the air especially with it being one of… Read more »
My husband and I “LOVE” Cold Case. I am so saddened to hear this great series might be in trouble. It always seems that the “Amazing Race”, which we can’t stand, runs overtime and we always miss the ending of Cold Case if we’re recording. Sure hope it stays on the air.
Football is it’s biggest problem. Ratings WILL increase after football ends… but by that point, it may be too late. The fact they had it on at ten after the horrible Three Rivers didn’t help either.
Cold Case will not last past this season. it barely made it last season, and now of course this looks to be the end of the run. With the football games and such running over any show that comes on Sunday night has a distinct disadvantage. And even should it not last past this season it has been around for quite some time now…. a lot of shows cant even say they have been around for 2 years to where this one has been around what now…7 or 8 years? Hope there are more, or at least if there isnt… Read more »
I found Cold Case on TNT and picked up watching new episodes until football ruined it. I don’t have the time or patience to play with my dvr or check to see when the show starts. I also dropped the Amazing Race for the same reasons.
Theres no way Cold Case will be saved, but her character could possibly move to one of the CSIs or NCIS series. Cold Case is within the same universe, I think.
