Constantine was cancelled by NBC after just one season. The character of Constantine will live on, but David Goyer thinks the series could have lived on too – if it was on a different network.
Goyer is currently out promoting the third and final season of Da Vinci’s Demons, and he took a moment to speak about Constantine, according to Variety.
Constantine landed on NBC, but was the network the right fit for it? Could a basic cable network been a better fit? Goyer thinks so.
“I loved Constantine. In retrospect, I don’t think it should have been on NBC. I think it was the wrong channel and I’m sure they probably agree with that as well. We almost doubled our numbers in DVR numbers, but they weren’t quite there in network television in counting those metrics. If it had been on a basic cable channel, it could still be on.”
Fans will be able to see Matt Ryan as Constantine on November 4 episode of Arrow. He has a connection to the resurrection story line involving Sara Lance.
After the series was cancelled by NBC, many fans brought up the SyFy channel as a venue for the cancelled series. There were rumors that the network was interested, but the rumors were debunked, according to Cinema Blend.
With Goyer mentioning basic cable in his comments, would SyFy have been a better fit for Constantine? Tell us what you think.
I was extremely disappointed to hear Constantine was cancelled. Unfortunately many great shows on broadcast stations are being cancelled. I believe Constantine would have survived on a cable network. I hope being on Arrow they will revise the show on a cable network.
Every time I get interested in a cool series on a network, it gets cancelled. I think I’m done with networks for good!
I think sfyi or cW will be a good home for Constantine please I LoVe the show, please bring back,or let the people decide, let’s vote for Constantine.
a better fit on CW or SyFy. Those are the channels, Constantine shouldn’t be cancelled
YES!!! The Sci-Fi channel would have been a better place for the series Constantine. NBC programming managers really don’t know what they are doing when it comes to science fiction. They got lucky with Heros Reborn and Grimm. But that was luck and LUCK only.
it shoeud never have been cancled it was a fantastic show and deserved so much better
I wish The CW would reconsider about picking Constantine up for a second season or make season two into a comic book series.
IMHO, Constantine would have been a great fit for HBO/Showtime/Starz/whatever. They wouldn’t have had near the restrictions they did on NBC and could’ve aimed for a more mature audience.
Basically if you have a good original show don’t go to NBC cause they’ll just cancel it after one season.
When Constantine came on Supernatural was in Season 9 not Season 6 Syfy doesn’t cancel all it’s good shows most good shows on Syfy get picked up for at least a second season they probably wouldn’t have it cut it from 22 down to 13, I think it would have done really on on The CW right along The Flash and Arrow they could have moved it from Fridays at 10 to Wednesdays at 9 but I really think Netflix would be a great network to pick up Constantine but we will see just how well the Arrow episode Haunted… Read more »
I don’t think constantine would have made it on SyFy, reason being is that SyFy cancels all their good shows. I think Co stantine would have made a better fit on TNT, FX or AMC.
Yea I always thought that show was a weird fit for NBC. I think it would have been a better fit on CW or SyFy. Those are the channels I usually watch 😉 I loved Constantine and would love to see another channel pick it up <3
Two things killed “Constantine” for NBC – NBC and NBC. The first time NBC killed it was by changing the show from a 10PM time slot to an 8PM time slot. Although the show is based on a comic book, it’s a VERY ADULT comic book. Having grown-ups want to watch this show at the time that kids want to watch TV is a REALLY bad idea. One episode has a character spontaneously BLEED FROM THEIR NECK! Definitely NOT what I would want my young child to watch with me before they go to sleep. The second time was when… Read more »
I think any other network than NBC. All their good shows are cancel, hope they stick with Blindspot and the Player. Constantine was a great show, it should go to the CW, or maybe Fox. Make to difference who picks it up, it is a great show, the same goes with Allegiance, I still can’t get over how NBC cancelled it after 5 episodes.
If you have a provacative theme and you are on NBC you are doomed ! Proof was cancelled after one season as well and so many people want it to stay. Unless you are a crime drama or reality show – Forget about it
‘Proof’ was on TNT. I didn’t know it got cancelled, so disappointing. I didn’t think it would be good, but I ended up liking it, so disappointed it got cancelled.
