It’s a dark time for fans of Dark Matter. Deadline reports Syfy has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.
The sci-fi drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory and who must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.
On his blog, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the show’s cancellation and thanked the fans, cast, and crew:
It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.
To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.
I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.
You all deserved better.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Dark Matter? Do you think Syfy should’ve renewed the series?
Sad to read this.
Stories were solid and I liked how the caracters evolved during the seasons, expecially Android 😉
It was refreshing to have something different.
I hope The Expanse will not have the same fate
Unreal!! It was a really good show! They seem to cancel all the ones I like, UN-BELIEVABLE!!!
You play a bunch of crap shows but dont renew the best one on Sci-fi channel…..why am I not surprised? I can’t imagine any better ratings for the crap shows on that channel. That cast was awesome and I liked the show alot. Wish another channel would pick it up and continue it. Guess there is a reason I never heard of this killjoys show. Great show….wrong channel.
Really? This was a smart show that challenged viewers and forced us to think, not just “entertained”. Maybe that was the problem: challenging viewers to think.
This was my “go to” show, the one I looked forward to, top of my list. Perhaps a network with more reach will pick it up,.
SciFi was suppose to be the Home for more thoughtful shows (Sci-fi) wise.
Just watched Season 3 on Netflix and I am disappointed that it is finished without an ending! The show had so much potential but this last season lacked cohesion.
One of the most original shows on TV in a long time…sad to see it canceled
why i love this show so much its funny just because of ratings all good shows have to go wtf well everyone as all the networks so does another good show kicks it sad
I definitely would like to see a Season Four. The interpersonal plot writing is a great complement to the excellent power plot twists and turns, not to mention the very well done special effects, costumes, and sets. Bring on a Season Four and then Five!
To hell with the SyFy and their stupid and boring horror shows and movies.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH SYFY! THAT WAS A STUPID MOVE! THAT SUX!!!!!!!!
Yes!
I have been a sci-fi fan all of my life and this show is one of the best I’ve ever seen. If this show was on a major network like abc or NBC it would have ten times the viewership! I think with just a little more advertisement the shows Fourth season could be stellar! Bring it back, we want it back!
This is so sad!! Netflix needs to pick it up. This is such a great show with great characters and storyline.
Just reading this now. It figures. SyFy is all about horror now. They’ve cancelled almost all the shows I watched now. They used to have good shows. SyFy does know what SyFy means, right?
I found this show on Netflix. After a couple episodes I was hooked, watching 2-3 episodes in a sitting. Please bring it back, awesome show, awesome cast. I think better advertising is what this show needs.
