It seems that stakes and network executives can take a vampire down. NBC has cancelled the Dracula TV show after one season of 10 episodes.
NBC’s Dracula is a retelling of the classic Bram Stoker story. In London, Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is posing as an American entrepreneur while he seeks revenge on those who cursed him. He doesn’t count on falling in love with a woman (Jessica De Gouw) who looks just like his deceased wife. Others in the cast include Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Smurfit, Katie McGrath, and Nonso Anozie.
The show’s debut did respecatably for a Friday night show but dropped much lower in subsequent weeks. The first season averaged a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.25 million total viewers.
Hannibal and Dracula are both produced under a unique deal that costs the network much less than other original drama series. Hannibal’s license fee is set to go down for season three so the network ultimately decided to renew that show and cancel Dracula.
It seems like Dracula’s studios could still potentially produce a second season for another outlet but there hasn’t been any news of that thus far.
What do you think? Do you think Dracula should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you follow the series to another channel or pay to see a second season?
I just found this, after months of anticipation and no previews on NBC. Unbelievable. YES, absolutely I would follow it to another network. Come on, CW, FOX, even TNT! I’d purchase Netflix to cram in a few seasons, yes. I would get them from the library or Redbox. I would not pay high dollars for movie channels or DVD purchase. This was incredible. Friday night used to be Sci-fi Fridays a decade ago. Now I have only Crossbones. OOPS. That was great, and NBC canceled that as well. The networks need to use their own talents to watch the shows… Read more »
I would follow the series! I really liked the show. I thought that Netflix will take on Dracula. I am waiting for them to do it. Read some articles on the internet and even called them up. Also, I sent e-mails to the CEO. I am not for sure when Netflix will take Dracula.
If it does, I really want to see it so bad! Will cross my fingers!!!
Just bought the first season love it it should so come back why leave sucky shows on tv but take good ones it’s the same with movies good ones nvr get number 2 but sucky ones get 3 or 4 rly come on
AMEN! Tell it like it is, Sistas. All TV viewers feel the same. If they do watch a stupid show, it’s only the move of a desperate person.
I have been waiting for season two. Now I find out there,s not going to be one. I can,t believe this show wash,t popular! what,s up with that? Not everyone wants to watch reality shows!!!!!
Yes please renew for season 2, yes I would watch from a different channel
I love this show, please please bring it back
Bring back Dracula. No other show will suffice.
Very upset they canceled this show! I don’t like many shows or movies but after watching a few episodes I became I fan of this one. There are so many shows on tv now that are dreadful.. At least produce a second season to wrap up the story line please.
Please bring back Dracula! Loved this show!
Love the show. Totally addicted. Lovd the acting, loved the costumes, loved the set, just loved loved it.
Dracula needs to rise from the dead.
I absolutely loved the series I would follow it to any other network!!!!!!!! Hopefully they will bring it back for many more season..
Sitting here wondering when the Dracula series was starting up again. Decided to web search and was disappointed in what I found out ! I hope NBC or some network will bring Dracula back to tv.
They should still continue to 2 season!!!
I agree with both the below comments. I loved this show, it was addicting. I just found out it got canceled, and it makes me angry. I hate when you leave a show off on a cliff hanger. Freaking put some work into the program if you love it. I watched it on Telus On-Demand, because i couldn’t get the channel, but before that I had never heard of it. Maybe do some more advertising before canceling…
I can’t believe it was cancelled. I loved it.
I sent an e-mail to Netflix and TNT if they will get Season 2. I am keeping my fingers crossed so it can come to Netflix.
Here is information to get Dracula on other networks. I already sent e-mails to Netflix, TNT and FOX.I like the show! The show was unique and different from the other TV shows. I loved the Victorian Era and the homes and dresses in the show. It looked so real!
