It seems that stakes and network executives can take a vampire down. NBC has cancelled the Dracula TV show after one season of 10 episodes.
NBC’s Dracula is a retelling of the classic Bram Stoker story. In London, Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is posing as an American entrepreneur while he seeks revenge on those who cursed him. He doesn’t count on falling in love with a woman (Jessica De Gouw) who looks just like his deceased wife. Others in the cast include Thomas Kretschmann, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Victoria Smurfit, Katie McGrath, and Nonso Anozie.
The show’s debut did respecatably for a Friday night show but dropped much lower in subsequent weeks. The first season averaged a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.25 million total viewers.
Hannibal and Dracula are both produced under a unique deal that costs the network much less than other original drama series. Hannibal’s license fee is set to go down for season three so the network ultimately decided to renew that show and cancel Dracula.
It seems like Dracula’s studios could still potentially produce a second season for another outlet but there hasn’t been any news of that thus far.
What do you think? Do you think Dracula should have been cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you follow the series to another channel or pay to see a second season?
I would love to see Dracula return! Why do the good shows always get cancelled?
Bring season 2 to cbs or abc and make nbc regret canceling the show.
Yes! I agree I would love to see this show continue! It had so much more quality of acting and story then so many other programs on any network. And can the networks finally get beyond those stupid reality shows and get back to providing excellent programming. I am just sick of reality shows!
i loved the show. worked nightshift and recorded it.. was waiting for new season. most people watch cable. let us who don’t have cable have our shows. this was a grownup vampire enjoyed it a lot
The show had great production values, and the actors were wonderful. It should be given another chance for a second season.
I would follow the second season no matter what website it aired on. Perhaps OWN would pick it up for a second season. If it goes there, it will be aired more than once so it would have opportunity to attract a bigger audience.
RENEWED OF COURSE.
I loved this show. It is so sad to see that the ratings always go toward garbage shows
Loved this show. I don’t have cable so if they moved it I probably couldn’t see it. So disappointed. I was looking forward to a long run with this story.
I have no cable. Because everytime i get interested in a show. They cancel it for another less desireable show. Junk if u will I loved. Dracula. Csis the mentlist. U are ending good shows. Intertaining shows. For. Junk. Im still mad. U didnt finish. Legasy from1995. Please bring bsck Dracula
I loved this show. I thought it was a well done tv series. I would follow it no matter where it went. Would watch season one again and again. Please find a way for this program
Totally agree – I AM re-watching (3rd time!) They should read this feed if they need convincing how popular and loved this program STILL is… I haven’t found a single negative comment thus far!
Dracula must continue. Please broadcast season 2.
I can’t believe they cancelled that show! It is so much better than Hannibal and Constantine sucks. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was awesome as Dracula. He is a great actor and perfect for this type of role. The show was off to a great start and left everyone hanging. Shame on you NBC.
I loved the first season of Dracula and I cannot believe it was cancelled, I’d like to see it come back!
I really enjoyed the original spin on a classic tale. So sorry NBC didn’t bring it back for season 2…! Would definitely watch on another network, or on Netflix!
Please bring it back for another season. We are left hanging .
