Should NBC return to the Land of Oz? The network’s freshman series Emerald City just ended its first season on March 3rd, but should it be renewed for second two?
Based on the books by L. Frank Baum, the Emerald City fantasy drama follows Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona), a young woman who is transported from Kansas to a mystical and mysterious land called “Oz.” The cast also includes Vincent D’Onofrio, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, and Joely Richardson.
Season one of Emerald City debuted on January 6th to low ratings, earning a 1.00 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.485 million viewers. From there, the numbers declined further. It would seem that viewer interest was waning. The show’s first season only managed to average a 0.72 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.02 million viewers — making it the lowest-rated new series on NBC.
What do you think? Should NBC return to Emerald City for a second season or should it be cancelled? Would you watch season two?
I loved loved loved Emerald City – I am in Australia and saw the trailer when I travelled to the USA for San Diego COmic Con and I then spent the next few months devastated that i had to wait until January.
It was a brilliantly put together series and left so many questions unanswered – if they dont put on a season 2, I would hope they could at least do a telemovie to answer everything – but I really really really really hope there will be a season 2.
Love the show please keep it going
I love this series and am desperate for a second season or more. I am fascinated with all the intelligent “tweaks” to the story and gorgeous visual design. The costumes, settings and characters are so well done, completely remained to be updated. I started watching the show because I’m a huge Vincent D’Onofrio fan and why I decided to watch. I also love fantasy fiction. I didn’t like the Judy Garland classic Wizard of Oz movie. I really enjoyed The Tin Man tv mini series too. I have to agree that it didn’t get a fair chance in a good… Read more »
I loved the twists and turns of thee story lines. The costumes and actors were great. Just put it on a different night and see how many more people will watch the show.
Emerald City is the best show I have seen!! It needs a season 2 and season 3 and season 4!! I love this show so much. Please renew!!
Emerald City was an incredible show and should be extended for at least another season. I loved the new look of a classic story and the unveiling of all the characters from all the wizard of oz movies. I can’t wait to see how the story continues to unfold!
In regard to the ratings, the poor season 1 ratings had to be at least partially due to the time slot.
Emerald City is one of my current favourite shows, and it would be devastating if they didn’t continue the story! Please don’t leave us hanging… Have loved the very modern interpretation of this classic story. Can’t wait for Season 2 !!!
I was never a big fan of the Original Wizard of Oz or ANY of the remakes. However, this was a very intriguing show. It had a lot of twists and turns you didn’t see coming. And the Witch of the West, Ana Ularu? MMMMM can’t get enough of her.
Don’t leave us hanging,,,,
Loved the characters n the suspense
Please make another season
I loved this show and will continue to watch if renewed. It was a great to watch with my older middle school daughter and get her interested in the Oz books.
I would definitely watch more episodes of Emerald City. Please please please don’t cancel. Patiently waiting for season 2.
I really like Emerald City and hope it isn’t cancelled. Friday night is my night to relax after a week of work and I love watching Emerald City with a glass of wine. I vote for Season 2!
Great show. A little hard to follow at times, not gonna lie, but overall pretty interesting and lots of fun. costumes, set, and character intrigue all get high marks
Yes please continue this series, love it
I would absolutely watch season 2. I was totally invested by the end of season 1. I do think Friday night is not a good night for it. Sunday might be better.
