What’s next for The Exorcist? Recently, creator Jeremy Slater spoke with Variety about the future of the FOX TV series.
Based on the classic horror film, the drama follows two priests who team together to solve a terrifying case of demonic possession. The cast includes Ben Daniels, Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey, and Hannah Kasulka.
In the interview, Slater said he has plans for more seasons:
The idea of doing a serialized show where every single year is just another possession and next season, we’re moving one block down and a different family is having this happen to them — your eyes would glaze over so fast. I don’t know how to write that show and I don’t know who would want to watch that show. In this first year we’re giving the audience something recognizable and relatable, but hopefully by the time a few episodes have gone by, you’ll start to understand how we’re creating an engine that can run for several years.”
He revealed that he plans on having characters return for a possible second season:
It could be. The goal is not to tell an anthology story, because I don’t think this is “American Horror Story.” The characters who survive this first season and still have story left to tell, you will absolutely see them again going into Season 2. I think our two priests, Marcus and Tomas, are probably going to be the spine of the show going forward. But the idea is to aggressively tell a new story every single season.”
FOX has not announced whether The Exorcist will have a second season or not. However, the outlook is dim. So far, season one has earned an average rating of .74 in the 18-49 demo and 2.125 million viewers.
What do you think? Are you watching The Exorcist?
Please bring the exorcist back in 2017
It started slow, but definitely got better. I would watch season two. Challenge would be not to fall into a formulaic recipe. The subplot of the Pope was interesting. I would give the show a second chance.
Please do not take the the exorcist show off because I love it.
I love the show. Marcus is my favorite. I hope there will be many seasons to come.
Great show. Genna Davis as well as the rest of the cast do an excellent job. The story line has lots of options for a season 2. The show should definitely be brought back.
Please don’t cancel this show, it’s one of the best on tv!!!
Go on netflix, Fox ruines ever good show so dont take that chance
They should definitely renew it. Great series and a lot can still be done. Watched show every week was never disappointed.

The problem is they put it on at 9pm on a Friday and following Hell’s Kitchen which only dimwits watch. How can shows like HK get renewed a show with great writing and acting be passed over.I wish NF would have shown this series.
I love this show. You have done excellent with this one i feel… it keeps u in suspense andnever a dull episode. .. i am hoping for a 2nd season…
I agree that this is a great show! We are looking forward to season 2!!!!!!!
I loved this tv show. I remember, as a teenager sitting with my girlfriend who is now my wife and having the crap scared out of me. I didn’t find it as scary as the movie, but enjoyed that Gina Davis was a grown up Regan MacNeil. I knew then that Pazuzu was going to jump from her daughter to her. I really don’t think it should return, as this will be like a poor sequel. Can’t see how this demon can just jump from one to another. I really did love this one though call because
This is my first posted comment ever for a tv show. I feel the need to do this after checking to see if The Exorcist was being renewed for Season 2. I was shocked to see how low the demographics were. This show has thrills and chills. The cast and the unfolding of the episodes was amazing. The tie ins to the book and the movie paid homage to both exquisitely. The photography and music made my heart skip a beat or gasp in amazement,AND not a bucket of blood or scantily dressed women to be seen anywhere. How refreshing… Read more »
