What’s next for The Exorcist? Recently, creator Jeremy Slater spoke with Variety about the future of the FOX TV series.
Based on the classic horror film, the drama follows two priests who team together to solve a terrifying case of demonic possession. The cast includes Ben Daniels, Alfonso Herrera, Kurt Egyiawan, Geena Davis, Alan Ruck, Brianne Howey, and Hannah Kasulka.
In the interview, Slater said he has plans for more seasons:
The idea of doing a serialized show where every single year is just another possession and next season, we’re moving one block down and a different family is having this happen to them — your eyes would glaze over so fast. I don’t know how to write that show and I don’t know who would want to watch that show. In this first year we’re giving the audience something recognizable and relatable, but hopefully by the time a few episodes have gone by, you’ll start to understand how we’re creating an engine that can run for several years.”
He revealed that he plans on having characters return for a possible second season:
It could be. The goal is not to tell an anthology story, because I don’t think this is “American Horror Story.” The characters who survive this first season and still have story left to tell, you will absolutely see them again going into Season 2. I think our two priests, Marcus and Tomas, are probably going to be the spine of the show going forward. But the idea is to aggressively tell a new story every single season.”
FOX has not announced whether The Exorcist will have a second season or not. However, the outlook is dim. So far, season one has earned an average rating of .74 in the 18-49 demo and 2.125 million viewers.
What do you think? Are you watching The Exorcist?
I think the show is great . Maybe it should be on a different night for better ratings, Friday is a bad night , people go out to dinner , movies, nightclubs, etc. I love the two priests, I am sure you could come up more story to air this show
I love the show maybe if it was on a different night the rating would be better.everyone goes out on Friday night dinner, movies , etc. I thought the show was well written and I love the two priests, I am sure you can come up with more stories to air this show with

I love this show!!!! I hope it gets a season 2!!!!
I LOVE THIS SHOW AND SO DOES MY HUSBAND!
I LOVED THE BOOK..I LOVED THE MOVIE AND I LOVE THE SHOW. I LIKE HOW THEY HAVE WOVE IN NEW CHARACTERS WITH THE ORIGINAL ONES.
I FOR ONE DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE WATCH RIDICULOUS REALITY SHOWS…..BUT THEY DO. THOSE SHOWS ARE ALLOVER THE TV STATIONS…THE FEW SHOWS I ACTUALLY LIKE TO WATCH OR GIVE A SHOT THEY CANCEL! SOME STAY BUT DOESNT SEEM FOR LONG…BUT THESE RIDICULOUS SHOWS STAY FOR YEARS..I DONT GET THAT. IM 52…I MISS THE OLD DAYS.
Love this show! Different and compelling, will likely be cancelled because of that, like everything else on TV that has an ounce of thought behind it.
Love this show! Never miss one!
Love this show. Seem to keep all the really stupid shows like bachelor and cancel all the creative shows. Father Marcus steals the show. Awesome!
excellent series. I hope for renewal. they always cancel the good scary series and keep the dumb ones.
I absolutely love this show! Please don’t cancel it!
I love this series so far. Don’t give it the axe too soon like NBC did with Hannibal. Hannibal did get 3 seasons. And it’s executive director is still looking for a new home for it for a season 4. Why these shows don’t go the way of HBO, Netflix, or Showtime I don’t understand. Penny Dreadful was another horror drama on Showtime that for 3 seasons. Hoping so much the Exorcist continues and give it a better time slot then Friday at 10.
One of the few quality shows on television. Excellent plot twists and dialogue is well written and executed by the actors and actresses. Fine performances from the cast as well. Hope it stays around for another season…it shows more promise than any show on TV right now.
I love this tv show and I am hoping for a second season. Maybe if you moved the show from a Friday death slot it would have more viewers.
Yes please have more seasons watched season one with my daughter, we both hoped it would never end. Please keep this series going
