The alphabet network has had mixed luck launching new sitcoms this season. Manhattan Love Story and Selfie have already been cancelled due to low ratings while Black-ish is on track to be renewed for a second season. How’s Fresh Off the Boat been doing? Does it have a chance at returning next fall?
On Fresh Off the Boat, a Taiwanese family moves from Chinatown in Washington, DC to Orlando, Florida. They open a steak restaurant and experience serious culture shock while pursuing the American Dream. The family members are played by Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler, and Ian Chen.
The new ABC series debuted with a pair of episodes on February 4th, surrounding a new episode of the network’s highest-rated sitcom, Modern Family. It performed very well with the two episodes averaging a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.71 million viewers.
The following week, Fresh Off the Boat moved to its regular Tuesday night timeslot. While the ratings came down quite a bit in week two, the sitcom did well — especially considering it didn’t have any lead-in support or big name actors in its cast. In week three, the show’s audience grew slighty to a 1.9 demo rating and 6.17 million viewers.
Last week saw the numbers inch downward but they could have dropped a lot more considering The Voice, NBC’s biggest series, started airing on Tuesdays.
Fresh Off the Boat is currently averaging a 2.0 rating in the coveted demo with 6.54 million viewers. It’s not a ratings hit but it is doing well for ABC on a night that’s been a real challenge for the network in the past couple years.
Unless the ratings take a big tumble all of a sudden, this series looks like a shoo-in to be renewed for the 2015-16 season.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Fresh Off the Boat TV show on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
I love this show! I don’t watch TV much. Just Netflix. but this is the one show that brings my family together to watch, just like old times.
Since this show started my family look forward to seeing it every Tuesday night; it is extremely funny and is really starting to develop. It is the only sitcom we watch . So interesting to see such a unique show that successfully tells experiences of members of our increasingly diverse society . It most definitely should be renewed
keep the show
I love Fresh Off The Boat. It is so funny. Please, please, please renew this show.
Awesome show, very funny and always good to watch
Would be pretty funny for a network that shares an acronym with American Born Chinese to cancel a show about FOBs…
Keep this show!!! It’s the only sitcom that I’m watching right now. Constance Wu is a total gem!!! And absolutely gorgeous! The best looking actress on TV right now!
Love the show. I look forward to watching it every Tuesday. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to all the existing sitcoms.
YES it should be renewed! It’s hilarious! And tv needs all the diversity it can get. (no more Duck Dynasties please) Randall Park is naturally funny, in a very understated way, and Constance Wu is fantastic! Everyone on the show clicks, YES renew it!
Funniest sitcom I’ve seen in years! Keep it!
Love the show! keep it coming!!!
Love the show! It is a hit in our house, right along side Blackish, Goldbergs, Modern Family and The Middle. The show is hilarious and can take some of us Generation X back to our “Wonder Years”. We look forward to seeing what the writers are going to have the family up to every week. And some of their one liners and not so PC comments have me laughing out loud. I even find that I am quoting the show in some of my day to day situations to lighten the mood or get a laugh. They have to renew… Read more »
Keep this show, I watch these shows multiple times! I also want you to bring back Selfie!
I love selfie!!
Fresh Off the Boat has great ratings. Combined with the backlash ABC would recieve for cancelling an Asian led tv series while so few exist, this show isn’t going anywhere. Renewed!
Definitely keep it! My family (with two kids) are always looking forward in seeing upcoming episodes.
