Season three of Grace and Frankie just debuted today, March 24th, and it seems the series has been quietly renewed and a fourth season is already underway. Recently, co-creator Marta Kauffman spoke with Deadline about the Netflix series.
The comedy stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as unlikely friends who come together after their husbands announce they’re gay and in love. The cast also includes Martin Sheen, Sam Waterston, Brooklyn Decker, and June Diane Raphael.
In the interview, Kauffman said season four of Grace and Frankie is currently in production and they’re hoping to get Dolly Parton to guest star:
We have talked about it and hopefully we’ll find a way to do it someday. She’s got a very, very busy schedule, so when we can make it work we’ll try to make it work if it fits in the story. Honestly, I’ve really given this a great deal of thought in terms of Dolly. The truth is, at first I was hesitant because I don’t want it to feel like a 9 To 5 reunion. On the other hand, if we can find a way to do it where it doesn’t feel to us it’s like the reunion of these three people but we have a special way in, then sure. Absolutely.”
Later, Kauffman revealed that season four will deal with the process of aging:
Well, Season 4 is dealing with the real process of aging in terms of what happens to us. By that I mean, not just in the world but also within our own bodies and how that affects our independence.”
And when will the series end? Kauffman says she has no current plans to end Grace and Frankie:
I’ve never thought about how long the show needs to be, the show will eventually tell us. Truth is I hope it lasts even longer. I mean, I have no real control over that, but yes, I think the show can go on further.”
Netflix has not yet announced when season four will premiere.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Grace and Frankie? Have you started watching season three yet?

I agree. I have signed up for a Netflix account after stumbling over this show. It is one of my favorite shows ever. I cannot get enough of it.
Right now this is my favorite show on Netflix. I just finished Season Three. I can’t wait for Season Four. I am a mature woman, 51 years old, but I know of many people, of different ages, who are also hooked. The acting is superb and the writing conveys a human story that helps us all better understand life.
Love this series! I can’t wait for each show, there is never a dull moment and always intriguing.

That was seriously 50 years ago. People get forgiven. She was young and passionate and made mistakes. Have you seriously been so lucky as to never having made a mistake. Grow up. Even my Marine corps father let it go. And he lost men.
