After just two weeks on the air, ABC has decided to pull Happy Town from the schedule. The TV show will be back but, for how long?
Happy Town follows the residents of a small town in Minnesota. After being plagued by kidnappings years ago, it seems the mysterious “Magic Man” has returned to start a killing spree. The cast includes features Sam Neill, M.C. Gainey, Geoff Stults, Lauren German, Amy Acker, Steven Weber, Ben Schnetzer, Sarah Gadon, Jay Paulson, and Robert Wisdom.
The series got off to a poor start two weeks ago with a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.25 million viewers. Last week, for episode two, viewership took a nosedive to a 1.2 in the demo and 3.79 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC has pulled Happy Town for the remainder of May sweeps. After tonight’s episode, the series goes on hiatus for two weeks and will return on June 2nd.
While this wouldn’t necessarily be a sign that the show will be cancelled, the ratings are. They’re terrible and there’s every expectation that they’re just going to get worse — especially with warmer weather coming and people spending less time in front of the TV.
After tonight’s episode, there are just five episode left. With numbers like these, fans of Happy Town will be lucky if the network shows the rest of them, never mind a second season.
Next week’s episode will be replaced by an edition of Primetime: What Would You Do?. On May 26th, ABC will present the network premiere of the Transformers movie.
What do you think? Why isn’t Happy Town performing better? Is it just not a very good TV show or are viewers just missing the boat?

Please, Please dont get rid of this show. It is so good I have turned co-workers onto it also. Love ya Happy Town!!
Great show, but difficult to keep up with it’s air time. Thank goodness I could get some episodes on In Demand. It’s just getting interesting and being canceled already? This is ridiculous! It always amazes me how the networks make decisions about what to cancel. Those reality shows are so over-rated and boring, no substance. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. This show was interesting and fun to try and figure out, yet not as overdone as Lost was (glad to see that one go).
No! No! No! NO! Don’t cancel Happy Town! It’s my favorite show, and I’ve set my DVR to record every episode! If I knew how; I’d give it 5 stars! They can atleast air the remaining episodes and then make a few more to wrap it up so the millions of people who watch it won’t be let down! Then sell all of them on a DVD! Just doooooon’t cancel it!
a lot of the reason why the show isnt gettin much viewers because ive barely seen any advertisments for it. also they air it one day and the same day next week its not on! i also agree with the other commenters that they should cancel the reality shows. you need to give the show a chance and not cancel them after the first few episodes. plus alot of people have dvr/tivo so it doesnt count for the ratings because its not live tv. if they counted that the ratings might double!
So instead of watching a show with at least some substance we get to watch stupid reality shows. What about the people who don’t care about Can You Dance Your Ass off, America has Talent or any of the rest of the junk they force you to watch. Me, I’ve changed the channel to PBS, History Channel and Discovery. At least the exec’s won’t touch those..I hope??
It is such a shame to see quality tv-shows being cancelled due to poor judgement on the execs’ side. This is a great show! And I’m sure that ratings would go up if they gave it a chance… People need time to hear about it, to hear other people talk about it, to be curious about it, and eventually watch it. Better publicity and better showtime would most certainly improve ratings. I have my fingers crossed for the survival of this show.
Maybe if ABC would have advertised better and put it in a better time slot (maybe Fall lineup) the show would have gotten better viewership and ratings. Now we’re all left hanging on to an awesome show that never really got a good chance to “make it”.
ABC would be making a huge mistake yet again by cancelling yet another primetime show especially without giving it a two season chance. Their Debut timing was way off this show should have debut in the fall thats when viewers are looking for these kinds of shows. ABC is probably losing viewers because of their unreliable show runnings. I was a huge fan of Commander in Cheif , October Road, What about Brian, Samantha Who, Eastwick, Invasion, Pushing Daisies, Ugly Betty, Men in Trees, Life on Mars ect ect ect….. some of these shows should never have been cancelled and… Read more »
I wish there was a way to let the execs know there is a following to this show…it is great!
I love the show. It keeps u geussing. After lost we all need a new show to escape to. I love the characters. I want to know what the magic man is up to. Please keep this show on the air. Get rid of useless shows like t the bachelor

This is a brilliant show, why do they cancel the good stuff yet show drivel like lost for 9 million episodes?
This is a great show. Some may not like it because you actually have to try and figure out the plot rather than having it served to you on a platter with a side of laughtrack. ABC needs to give this show a chance!
ABC has cancelled endless number of great shows if they aired them properly. They have all the garbage on for the best time.
Are they crazy ? Why cancel ? They always cancel the best shows, and renovate the trash….why ? I just want to know why ? After 2 episodes ? Really ?
Don’t cancel this show!! It’s the new Twin Peaks in Minnesota, doncha know! We LOVE it!
