After just two weeks on the air, ABC has decided to pull Happy Town from the schedule. The TV show will be back but, for how long?
Happy Town follows the residents of a small town in Minnesota. After being plagued by kidnappings years ago, it seems the mysterious “Magic Man” has returned to start a killing spree. The cast includes features Sam Neill, M.C. Gainey, Geoff Stults, Lauren German, Amy Acker, Steven Weber, Ben Schnetzer, Sarah Gadon, Jay Paulson, and Robert Wisdom.
The series got off to a poor start two weeks ago with a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.25 million viewers. Last week, for episode two, viewership took a nosedive to a 1.2 in the demo and 3.79 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC has pulled Happy Town for the remainder of May sweeps. After tonight’s episode, the series goes on hiatus for two weeks and will return on June 2nd.
While this wouldn’t necessarily be a sign that the show will be cancelled, the ratings are. They’re terrible and there’s every expectation that they’re just going to get worse — especially with warmer weather coming and people spending less time in front of the TV.
After tonight’s episode, there are just five episode left. With numbers like these, fans of Happy Town will be lucky if the network shows the rest of them, never mind a second season.
Next week’s episode will be replaced by an edition of Primetime: What Would You Do?. On May 26th, ABC will present the network premiere of the Transformers movie.
What do you think? Why isn’t Happy Town performing better? Is it just not a very good TV show or are viewers just missing the boat?

I love this show I look forward to it every week. I am not happy that they are thinking about cancelling it. I am curious to know what is going on and if they have to end it then they should at least tie up all the loose ends of the show.
Its quite disappointing that a great show such as Happytown might get cancelled and trash like Cougartown is a hit. Its like Twin Peaks all over again! So SAD!
i think happy town is not doing very well due to the fact that the plot is sort of speratic and difficult to understand if you don’t take the time to pay attention. This show is engineered magnificently and, is very interesting for people like I who find enjoyment in shows that don’t jump out and tell me the main cause of the show. For instance LOST was a big hit because, it made people think and, let them imagine different possiblities as to what the island truely was. Happy town just hasn’t made it to the point were people are… Read more »
Didn’t even know the show was on the air until I found it on hulu. I like it.
glad to see the show go, back acting and the whole thing (meaning the show) was stupid not at all like Harper Island last summer. Now that was a good show lots of action, Happy town was just too boring
There seem to be an overwhelming amount that are happy not to think when they get in front of the tube and would rather see some bimbo have 18 dates then to actually have to think or follow a story line. It’s also extremly cheap to produce that reality garbage. That’s what will take it’s place no doubt.
i LOVE Happy Town. The characters, the story line, the big Hawk…each week the story line gets better and better.
PlEASE do NOT pull the plug!
Well I must say I like the show. But its getting crazy. I mean it comes bk on stops starts bk up now stops. Hell I can’t keep up wth whts going on so I’m really confused. Like this wensday its a NO show. lmao ppl can’t keep up wth all the breaks
I really like this show lots and think that it has very interesting characters. I hope to see more.
It’s hard for me to get into the show, but I think it would do a lot better on SyFy doesn’t seem like a good fit with ABC.

August Rush aired on Lifetime the same day Transformers aired. I didn’t have a choice between them.
I think that people are just missing the boat. The show looked interesting, but I never found the time to watch. I finally got the chance to view the show online. I love it because it is intense, eerie and exciting. I wish more people would start watching because today I was shocked to discover the the show was being cancelled. Now that I am hooked, I am not too pleased to be left hanging in the wind.
I really like this show. It’s getting more interesting every week. I wish the Sci Fi channel would pick it up , it seems like that would be a good place to put it. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled. I just had to get over watching Lost every week and I really need something to watch. I am also watching Persons Unknown and that seems good too so I hope they don’t stop these. I am tired of the silly realities shows getting renewed like Jerseylicious. Really? Is this what the world is coming to?
Potential is not enough. This muddled mystery, set supposedly in a small Minnesota town unlike any of which I’m aware, is just a big bore. And the superfluous political cuts are the final nail in this show’s coffin. Bye bye and good riddance.
TV in general is ****. But I actually find Happy Town enjoyable to watch The plot continuity is not unlike that of a movie in a highly elongated time frame. Plus, how can you go wrong with a creepy murder mystery, at the very least they should keep it going long enough to finish everyone’s story.
