The Hawaii Five-0 TV show’s ratings declined for several years in a row. In its seventh season though, the CBS reboot basically maintained its demo rating average, and its total viewership grew. With the departures of stars Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, as well as Masi Oka, will the ratings increase further, or will they sink as a result of the losses? Is this TV series nearing its end, anyhow? Alex O’Loughlin has indicated this eighth season may be his last. Will Hawaii Five-0 be cancelled or renewed for season nine? Stay tuned.
A reimagining of the original Hawaii Five-0, this CBS police procedural stars Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Ian Anthony Dale, Meaghan Rath, Beulah Koale, Jorge Garcia, Chi McBride, Taylor Wily, Dennis Chun, and Kimee Balmilero. The action revolves around Detective Steve McGarrett (O’Loughlin) and his elite state police task force. Together, they fight crime in the 50th state.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/19 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The seventh season of Hawaii Five-0 averaged a 1.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.247 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Hawaii Five-0 TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for season nine on CBS?
4/18/18 update: CBS has renewed Hawaii Five-0 for a ninth season for the 2018-19 network broadcast season. Details here.
Absolutely NOT!!! I LOVE Hawaii Five-0. Don’t cancel this entertaining adult series.
No no no !!!!! do not cancel Hawaii Five-O
It might get to season 9 but I won’t be watching. I am giving it a chance this year. I miss Daniel and Grace. It’s not the same. Let it go after this year
Let it die in peace. When kono and chin go Kelly left it was over.
Several years ago Daniel was voted as one of People’s sexiest men! He has a quiet strength, and he and Grace really gave the show heart! Please bring them back. They are worth much much more than money to the show!
YES!!!! we can all use some gooooooood eye candy
Please renew. I still love the show.
Let it go, let it go! That shows no good now.
CBS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. I NEVER MISSED AN EPISODE OF HAWAII 50 PRIOR TO CBS FIRING TWO MAIN CAST MEMBERS. WHY CANT CBS LEARN SOMETHING FROM NBC. LIKE HOW THEY TREATED FRIENDS PAID THEM ALL THE SAME. ESP. THE LAST SEASON ONE MILLION EA PER EPISODE. I’M BOYCOTTING YOUR NETWORK. LUCKILY FOR U I WILL CONTINUE TO WATCH BULL ONLY BECAUSE LAST SEASON IT WAS GOOD. THERE IS NO LOYALTY IN YOUR COMPANY. THE HEAD OF CBS SHOULD BE FIRED. OR MAYBE PAY HIM LESS THE THE EXECUTIVES OF OTHER NETWORKS SEE IF HE WOULD THINK 5% RAISE… Read more »
My understanding was that the two actors chose to leave because the network refused to increase their salaries to the level they felt they deserved. They were part of an ensemble cast though, and not the “stars”, so it is not a surprise that the network declined.
CBS did not fire them, they quit
Scott Caan was never really needed in the show. How he was paid more the Kim & Park is mind boggling to begin with. I watched the first episode of the season for a few moments and as I saw how Kim & Park were replaced within the writing of the show I immediately lost interest. I haven’t watched it since. Their characters gave the show “life” and the Hawaiian flavor. I will not be watching it going forward. Suggestion: Bring Kim & Park back and get rid of Caan; ratings will rebound and the show will run successfully for… Read more »
Tired of Danny and McGarret’s continual whining. Should have never lost the good Asian characters. I haven’t watched a single episode this season and never will again. I watched every episode of the original series and every episode of the new series until this year. It amazes me how the network writers can ignore what the viewers are saying. Well, write what you want, and I will watch what I want.
What’s going on?????? Hawaii 5-O is self-destructing. We’ve watched it for as long as it’s been on the air, and we’ve loved the characters, plot and action. But now????? The powers that be got rid of two main beloved characters. Bad move. They’ve aded one black and one hispanic as replacements.–I assume politically correctness had a hand in this because as good as they are, they can’t fill Grace Park and Daniel DaleKim. And the story lines??? They are unbelievably bad, unrealistic and boring!!!! And what is this focus on loud music competing with what the actors are saying. Believe… Read more »
Hawaii five O, without Daniel Dale Kim and Grace Park, lost its authenticity. 10/13 episode just watched for a few minutes and told myself, “it’s just like the other police shows”
Scott Caan has been a “Danny” disaster to this show from the beginning. It was only watchable because Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dale Kim, and Grace Park (at least the last two portrayed Hawaiians!!) Uniquely Hawaiian crime hasn’t been the focus nor the beauty of the islands. New cast fits a Los Angeles set, and new characters still can’t diminish Scott Caan.
team Dano here, way better character than steve
Renew, but only with Grace and Daniel re-hired, otherwise cancel.
Cancelled, I think. Even after Masi left, everything changed. The departures of Daniel and Grace will really affect everything. The excitement of earlier days has gone.
Time for CBS to bite the bullet and say aloha to “Five-O.”
I love watching Hawaii Five o and the cast is awesome especially Alex O”loughlin as Steve Mcgarrett. I do miss chin and Kono but I will continue tunning in on Fridays to look at Steve Mcgarrett and his team.
